Tanto signs

Or to give him his real name…. Isaac Tanitoluwaloba Aduraoluwatimileyin Olaofe was today added to Nathan Jones’ Championship squad. Imagine getting his name on the back of your short at 50p a letter?

Olaofe has signed a three-year contract with a club option of an additional year.

Keeper Kaminski signed

Luton Town’s Thomas Kaminski has become the Addicks second signing of the summer. Noted as fee undisclosed, Kaminski has signed a three-year deal.

The 32-year old Belgian has made close to 500 appearances including 38 in the Premier League and 160 in The Championship.

Thomas Kaminski

I reckon we may see a little bit of movement this week on the transfer incomings front.

There’s a little pre-season activity in some places and player’s contracts do expire on Monday.

Isaac ‘Tanto’ Olaofe

A Friday night rumour to sleep on.

The 25-year old Lewisham born Stockport County striker has scored 36 goals in 121 games for the promotion rivals and Hatters’ fans reckon we are making moves to sign him.

Discreet signings

One can find transfer rumours all over the internet. It only takes a keyboard, a social media account and an empty life but I don’t expect many Charlton transfer rumours to make it out in the open this summer.

Even known sleuth Rich Cawley might find it hard to prise information out of the club, and Nathan Jones is notoriously guarded.

Ethan Gailbraith bid turned down

Sky Sports are reporting, so a reliable source, that Leyton Orient have turned down a bid from Charlton of £1.3 million for Ethan Gailbraith.

Gailbraith impressed for the O’s in the last two season’s playing 96 times, scoring 11 goals, with 10 assists.

Odel Offiah interest

The steadfast Rich Cawley has linked us with Brighton defender Odel Offiah. The 22-year old of rugby legend Martin, comes with quite the reputation.

Offiah played 44 games last season whilst on loan at Blackpool.

Sonny Carey signs from Blackpool

It has been a busy day at the training ground.

The Addicks announced the signing of a midfield 10 Sonny Carey from Blackpool. The 24-year old will join the club following the expiration of his contract at Blackpool on July 1st.

Small signs for Preston

A real shame, but not surprising to see Thierry Small leave the club today. He and his agent had long held out against signing a new contract and his move to Preston underlines how hard it will be to compete financially with other clubs a level up.

Small signed for Preston North End today on a 4-year deal, and they will pay a ‘training compensation.’

Transfer window analysis

Talking Point 🗣️

It is hard to be surprised by the club’s transfer policy, they did tell us. Players to leave because the training pitches weren’t long enough as well as to trim the budget, plus a couple in to help where we were short.

Big win, big win

I had been trying to keep an eye on the Addicks last day of the transfer window whilst at a work symposium where back to back meetings only allow breaks for more coffee and a pee.

After a month of inaction it all happened today as the club signed on loan Alex Gilbert and Tom McIntyre, moved out Zach Mitchell on loan and sold REG permanently to Leyton Orient.

Zach Mitchell moves north of the border temporarily

Young Addicks centre-back Zach Mitchell, well thought of by the club’s coaching staff, has moved to St. Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership until the end of the season.

The Bromley born 20-year old will be on a stiff learning curve up there as the Perth side sit rooted to the bottom of the table and have conceded the most goals in the league.

Alex Gilbert in on loan

It’s February and we have the first January window signing. Alex Gilbert (not Gilbey) has signed on loan from Middlesbrough until the end of the season.

Gilbert is an attacking midfielder, but can play out wide or a little deeper. Time will tell if he is a Conor Gallagher or a Lewis Fiorini.

Luton sell Allan Campbell to Dundee United

Another one off the books.

Allan Campbell has so impressed during his 549 League One minutes that Dundee United have made an offer that Luton Town could not refuse and the Scot has returned north of the border.

Lloyd Jones signs new contract

Announced minutes before kick off tonight. Jones has put pen to paper on an extension that takes him to the summer of 2027. Very positive news is that.

The vice-captain said: “I’m buzzing to sign this contract and I’m looking forward to what the future holds. I’ve loved my time at Charlton so far and I feel like I’ve found a real home here and am playing the best football of my career under the gaffer.”

Owen Moxon

Not a rumour, not even a whisper, but just a little 2 + 2 cogitation.

Owen Moxon has won promotion in each of the past two seasons, but has struggled to hold down a first team berth in The Championship this season with Portsmouth.

Terry Taylor loan

Still very light on any transfer news, especially on incomings as we turn the daily calendar over to the 16th of the month.

Terry Taylor, who had a run of games before Christmas before picking up an unqualified knock, finds himself once again on the outskirts of the first team squad.

Asiimwe joins Walsall on loan

The first of the squad out then as 20-year old Nathan Asiimwe has joined Walsall on loan until the end of the season.

That looks a good move to me as Walsall are flying and comprehensively won again earlier today to take the Sadlers 13 points clear at the top of League Two and are promotion certs.

Has the transfer window opened?

Fraser’s contract cancelled

If you did a heat map of my Blog then the name of Scott Fraser would be in a bright red bubble during these last few months, yet the last time he started a game for Charlton was that dreadful performance at Leyton Orient on Boxing Day.

As expected it was announced early this morning that the 29-year old Scot has left the club by mutual consent.

Deadline day passes without a whimper

I don’t know if there has ever been a transfer deadline day where we haven’t seen one player leave or join.

I’m not knocking it as it was such a pleasant change to do our business early, seven of the nine new signings joining the pre-season tour that began on July 7th.

Campbell joins. Busy week expected

The final week of the summer transfer window started well for Nathan Jones as his old compatriot Allan Campbell signed from Luton Town on loan for the season.

Kaheim Dixon close

A few weeks back word came out that 19-year old Jamaican international Kaheim Dixon was expected to sign with the Addicks.

Terry Taylor

Signed just over a year ago, Terry Taylor has started just two games for the Addicks and looks unlikely to add to them.

Not included in the Carabao Cup squad, Taylor has been added to the list of players that Nathan Jones is content to move on to create headroom for new signings before the month is out.

First impressions

A mate messaged our chat after 15 minutes. He couldn’t follow the game and asked how we were looking. I told him I’d report back after a further 45 and 3/4 games.

It’s impossible to judge based on one game, but still first impressions count, and it’s hard not to draw some early reflections and assumptions.

Begovic deal dead

Hardly surprising that a player that has played 250 Premier League games and more recently sat on the bench for expensively compiled squads earns a lot more than the rest of the Charlton payroll.

The only surprise is how long it took to get to that summation, but the Asmir Begovic to Charlton deal is off.

Play up

It’s a shame that Portsmouth got promoted, we are going to miss those six points this season.

It sounded like a far more promising exhibition today at The Valley, leaving Addicks in a far happier state of mind. Friendlies can bring a lot of misleading expectations, good and bad, but the final one has a lot more forward-looking importance attached to it.

Isted sold to Burton

As socialized yesterday, after passing a medical Harry Isted has moved to Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee.

Isted played 23 games for the Addicks after joining from Luton last summer, although more recognizable for his loan spell at Barnsley.

Isted out, Begovic in

Possibly.

It seems at least that Harry Isted is leaving for Burton Albion on a permanent transfer.

Kaheim Dixon

It’s been very quiet on the transfer front, not even a sniff of a rumour. That was until today.

19-year old Jamaican international Kaheim Dixon is expected to sign with the Addicks. Is Gassan Ahadme worth a £1 million?

We ain’t spending a £1 million on anyone. You pay for potential, you pay for value, you pay for possibilities.

The mysterious case of George Dobson

Word reaches us from Székesfehérvár that George Dobson and his family won’t be leaving their Chigwell home and moving to the historical central Hungarian region after all.

It was strange that Fehérvár hadn’t announced Dobson’s signing once his Charlton one expired, especially as they had made quite a big deal out of it in January, but it turns out the ‘binding pre-contract’ has been annulled.

Matt Godden signs from Coventry

I’m sure we will rue comparing Matt Godden with Alfie May, so I will try not too.

Alfie May joins Birmingham

The video was unexpected. Alfie does appear genuinely upset. Fair play for the message, but at least we can now move on. The whole affair had taken over the pre-season, and I think in the majority of most fan’s minds set a negative mindset.

May joins Birmingham City for what is said to be £775,000 plus add-ons, and supposedly according the Nathan Jones, the fee will be reinvested in this window, although Cheltenham will get a cut.

Please click for more

May’s going to go, isn’t he?

I think the writing is on the wall with regard to Alfie. There’s rarely any smoke without fire and between Huddersfield having money to spend and Nathan Jones’ word gymnastics I am pretty convinced last season’s L1 top scorer has played his last game in a Charlton shirt.

Alex Mitchell joins from Millwall

Josh Edwards signs on 4-year contract

A little known fact is that Dunfermline is twinned with Sarasota. That is my only insight on Josh, who today signed a 4-year contract with Charlton reported to be for a five-figure sum.

The 24-year old has 220 games under his belt and was in the Scottish L1 team two seasons ago, the year Dunfermline won promotion, and again in the Scottish Championship team of the year for this past season.

Luke Berry signs from Luton

I put Luke Berry and Charlton together after Luton announced their end of season release list and today that became a reality when the midfielder signed on a two-year contract (with a year’s option).

Berry is a signing to raise the eyebrows, and I would have expected him to have had plenty of offers from higher placed teams, particulary in the south-east, but has chosen the Addicks purely down to his relationship with Nathan Jones.

Alfie May

There’s been lots of chatter about Alfie May since the season ended. One half of the camp are ‘he is definitely going,’ the other half ‘of course he’s not.’

No one really knows of course, probably not even Alfie, who on the back of a golden-boot winning season must have expected to just rest-up and get all fired up to start a new season.

Conor McGrandles gone

The first of the unwantables has left the club. Signed two years ago, we never saw anything like the best of the deep-lying midfielder who had played over 200 games before he joined us.

Mannion signed, Berry & Edwards to follow

The Addicks announced their first summer signing today. No surprises in that it was goalkeeper Will Mannion, who will join once his Cambridge United contract expires at the end of this month.

Mannion finished the season as Cambridge’s number one, but his career, which matches many goalies, has been stop, start.

Goalkeeping situation

Both Ashley Maynard Brewer and Harry Isted are under contact, AMB until 2026 and Isted until 2025 yet it seems that Nathan Jones does not have them in his go forward plans.

Jones looks to be actively seeking goalkeepers in the market, and not just one but two.

Josh Edwards

Sounding as if there is some early transfer activity planned by the Addicks when the window opens on June 14th. This is exactly what Nathan Jones has hoped for.

Three players have been linked in the last day or two. Luke Berry, goalkeeper Will Mannion and Josh Edwards.

Dobbo going or staying?

The conversation on whether George Dobson will stay or leave in the summer has got louder and louder these past few weeks. There are over 3,300 comments on the Charlton Life Forum, and Nathan Jones spent the bulk of his post game chat throwing the club’s decision makers under the bus whilst singing George’s praises.

The people that matter – those that were witness to the deal in the first place including Fehérvár, George’s agent, Andy Scott and George himself have been pretty silent on the matter.
