Reece Burke
Rich Cawley has thrown another name into the Hatters…. see what I did there?
Reece Burke was another player that Nathan Jones signed for Luton Town that went on to look comfortable in the Premier League.
The strapping right wing back is 28-years old but has a history of injuries. He does however tick the box of having played over 150 games in The Championship.
Last season he missed three months of Luton’s campaign with a quad injury, similarly in the Hatters’ Premier League season he was out for two months with a knee injury.
In their promotion season 2022/23 under Jones, the 6ft 2in defender missed two months because of a hamstring injury.
Obviously extremely talented, the former West Ham academy graduate was a key player in Luton’s progress as well as Hull City’s promotion from L1 but the fact that Matt Bloomfield openly admitted that he has to manage Burke’s injury history is concerning.
Burke signed a new contract for Luton in the summer of 2023.

We can’t afford to have another injury plagued player, plus we have cover at centre half, what we need right now is a good quality right wing back as we currently have no one to fill this important position
Totally agree, he may be very good when he isn’t injured, but in the last four years he has only managed a maximum of half the games in one year, less than that in two other years and only 10 games last year and we have had more than our fair share of injury prone players over the last years, surley we don’t want to sign more?
I honestly really can’t see why Jones is after him, apart from the fact that Jones signed him when he was at Luton and says he already knows how I like to play. Plus he got Potts in last season, for the same reason as he already knows how I like to play, who was also prone to injuries and managed just one game before becoming injured again! These players may have been once a good player for Jones but times have moved on and they aren’t the same players now and they add to the overall wage bill which surely could be put to better use signing signing better quality and fit players!
A creative midfielder would be helpful too.
Still five players needed imho.
Kayne Ramsey and RWB would be a safer option imo with a non-injury prone CB first choice and cover also
Taking a step back, Kane Ramsey’s time at Charlton can only be described as beset by injuries – doesn’t change the fact he’s been one of our best players and key in the run to promotion.
There are always going to be reasons why available players are in Charlton’s price bracket.
If Burke had an unblemished injury record he wouldn’t be on Charlton’s radar, he’d be established at a top 30 club
I’m disinclined to pick out potential ‘issues’ or ‘weaknesses’
Call me Pollyanna but where this season’s recruitment is concerned it’s all about Accentuate The Positive
Cawley’s sources and timing as impeccable as ever
