Tayo Edun moves to Posh

Peterborough United have signed Tayo Edun on a permanent deal only until the end of the season.

The defender, who joined the club from Blackburn Rovers in July 2023, made 37 appearances for the Addicks across all competitions, scoring once

Edun played in a variety of roles at Charlton, but was signed as a left back and that’s where Darren Ferguson sees him. The Posh manager apparently has been a long time admirer.

Edun said: “In the last year, I haven’t played as much football as I would have liked, so hopefully I can come and play games and help the team as much as I can.”

Good luck to him.

Good luck to him – but he was our third choice leftback, even with owners who have deep pockets that’s a luxury and a wage bill that we can’t afford.

You couldn’t fault his work ethic but I couldn’t help thinking that he was typical of a lot of players that we’ve signed in recent years – decent at this level but not quite good enough to get us promoted or consistently sit in the play-offs and threaten promotion. If we are to challenge for promotion we need players who are better than average and hopefully this opens up a spot in our squad and wage bill for that elusive creative midfielder.

I suppose his main memory will be the red card he picked up against Northampton in what proved to be Michael Appleton’s swansong, possibly the worst red I’ve ever seen given to a Charlton player. Maybe he was just unlucky to be at Charlton when we had too many players who weren’t quite good enough for where we wanted to be?
