Charlton Athletic 2 Burton Albion 0

A poor game, but a pretty comfortable win which eases any worries. Takes us 13 points above the drop zone, although Crewe can still catch us 😀.

2-0 up at the break, but we were actually better in the 2nd half. We didn’t really look in any danger as Burton failed to muster a shot on target, although ex-Addick Oshilaja did hit the bar.

A deserved win and a vital one at that and in all honesty we couldn’t have asked for much more.

It feels a long time, that’s because it is, that Addicks had that winning feeling. Although there was more relief than anything else.

7 league games without a win and just one goal in five games, that a fortuitous penalty given for handball yesterday.

In full disclosure I gave yesterday a miss, deciding instead to do something more worthwhile than put myself through another hour and half of oppression.

I’ll take that. A point and a clean sheet after 5 defeats and conceding 12. That was only our second clean sheet in 2022 and we needed it.

Today was a back to basics Curbs-like performance. Little inspiration but plenty of perspiration, the players put a shift in, we defended well, certainly rode our luck but stuck to the task and thanked MacGillivray for making good saves when called upon.

Sheffield Wednesday 2 Charlton Athletic 0

Another defeat, the 5th in row. We have never lost five games in a row outside of the top two divisions. The lows get lower.

Wednesday had us on the ropes from the kick-off, we could hardly get out of our penalty area as they forced three corners in three minutes and then scored from a free-kick in the 4th.

Charlton Athletic 0 MK Dons 2

Let’s start first of all with that MK Dons were pretty good. They have a clear style, they move the ball confidently and patiently and have built a close knit team that are well coached and drilled.

To beat them we had to be confident, brave, smart and decisive and we were none of those things.

Charlton Athletic 0 Oxford United 4

I decided to give yesterday’s game a miss and took the football-widowed-other-half out for lunch. First time I have forced myself away from a game all season, and I’m grateful I did as it sounded desperate.

Despite a bright start Karl Robinson’s Oxford rolled us over. Punishing us in key areas and apparently we got away with 4.

Wigan Athletic 2 Charlton Athletic 1

A much better performance than Tuesday but the same result at Wigan this afternoon.

With no Aneke, Washington, Stockley, or Scott Fraser we were always going top be up against it. The assumption was that Famewo missed out due to loan numbers. Jacko kept to his 3-5-2 but there were more centre-backs on the bench than in the team. I’m all for having a philosophy, but you also need the players.

We can question recruitment again on this front, or any sense of long-term planning which doesn’t seem to be Sandgaard’s forte….

Bolton Wanderers 2 Charlton Athletic 1

Welcome to mid table of League One. This is where we are.

Dreadful game where Bolton exploited our defensive weaknesses and unenforced errors. I’ve said this for a while but Akin Famewo is one minute Franz Beckenbauer, one minute Frank Spencer.

Would you rather with 3-2 or 1-0?

A rather rag tag display today by both defences, but we scored more goals so collected another win, which was vital after the excellent one on the road midweek.

Portsmouth 1 Charlton Athletic 2

The transfer day weather was sunny periods with later dark clouds but as those lifted we had a football match and bloody good it was too.

Fratton Park has been a happy hunting ground and 1,230 Addicks were making all the noise again tonight in front of the Sky cameras.

Those beers after a Saturday home win always taste good. 🍺 🤕

It was much needed, and although the first half was largely forgettable and we were second-best for a big chunk of it, we did end it on the front foot and the 2nd half saw us deservedly take our first three points since December 11th.

When Addicks’ fans invaded the pitch at the Jonny Rocks Stadium after Chuks Aneke scrambled in an undeserved equalizer in the 94th minute it kind of summed up where we now stand as a football club.

Ex-Premier League staple, upper end Championship stadium and by most accord a club too big to be playing in the 3rd tier. Well, I think the more we accept where we are the more of a chance the club has to reset and start again.

Crewe Alexandra 2 Charlton Athletic 1

I hate this division. I hate the fact that my football team look quite at home in it.

Clutching at straws to bemoan a disallowed goal and an appalling refereeing display, although it did go all Hackney Marshes at the end when the bewildered ref spent five minutes talking to a fat linesman about what happened good three minutes after Lee’s shot deflected over the ‘keeper and in. VAR would have a field day in this division.

Disappointing result. I had a bad feeling about today, although the line-up had recovered from Covid better than I expected, with just Stockley missing, and that from a knock.

We started really sluggishly as if we hadn’t played for a while. I never get this ‘the players are too tired, they play too many games’ thing. They always play better when they are playing regularly.
