Charlton Athletic 2 Wigan Athletic 2

A polar opposite game from Saturday as two mid table slides slogged it out in a quieter atmosphere.

The Addicks had enough chances to win the game but had to settle for their 18th draw of the season, the most in all of the EFL.

The first half was only of any note for a lovely taken lob of an own goal by Wigan’s skipper Hughes to put us ahead.

The second 45 though saw us create many chances, but composure mostly let us down. However the Latics rarely threatened, and in normal circumstances it was a game that had a 1-0 written all over it.

Yet, our defence was once again in a generous mood and managed to turn a comfortable lead into a losing position in the space of four minutes.

Twice Kelman scored out of really nothing. Isted pushed out a shot when he should have done better, our defenders panicked and Kelman turned in.

Then our defensive line parted like a red-shirted sea and the same player danced into the box unopposed and his shot was deflected in.

Anyone who says we only need a couple of players to transform this team into a promotion winning one needs to watch those four minutes on repeat.

Jones responded with three subs, which I felt he should’ve done earlier. Gillesphey, who fills me with no confidence, May and a tired looking Kanu were replaced by LuaLua, TC and Aneke.

At that point the pub was calling and it was too good an idea to turn up, so I followed the game with a beer in my hand when everything seems better.

Chuks missed a golden opportunity but did head in a confidence boosting equalizer to square the game 2-2.

The unbeaten run continues. Three games left.

MoW: Dobbo. He’s really leaving isn’t he?

Elsewhere: Cheltenham lost at home to relegated Carlisle, Reading should also be safe winning at Bristol Rovers and Blackpool beat Fleetwood in the seaside derby.

I agree with most of what you say.

Every effort should be made to keep Dobbo, with out him

we will struggle. as for the subs they were brought on to late Why was Chuks not brought on to assit May????

May and Dobbo were our best players, they seemed to be the only ones that can pass and reach a Charlton player. As for the defence lest said,

Well, all good teams in my opinion are built from the back….a strong defence is a must, and then build on that. Hopefully Jones has his eye on a few decent defenders in the summer

Nathan will need to adjust our defending as we should have got three points.Dobbo ran the show and yes he is going to Hungary end of season. The owners should have accepted the exceptionally small financial increase requested by Dobbo. We are going to lose a player who has definately contributed to us staying up. Nathan and our fans want him to stay but a contract has been signed and I feel we could and should have kept him.

we must keep hold of dobbo an on song chuks is awesome and Deffo may then build a new team around those with Leaburn fit for next season and also kanu and with dempsey coming through Coventry is also a good player when he wants to be hopefully get a new gk poss 2 and a couple of decent defenders and we’ll be laughing 😃

Strong defences win trophies, good attacks win matches…

We deserved the win but again defensive errors let us down. Sorting out the defence and cutting out basic errors is a priority.
