Fleetwood Town 1 Charlton Athletic 1

The game stank, and although for the hundredth time we contrived to gift another a goal, neither team deserved to win the game which had zero quality.

The pitch was atrocious but throughout I felt all we needed to do was get the ball down and put three quick passes together and we would create openings and win the game, but that was beyond us.

In a short space of time Jones has instilled a fight and belief in this group and somehow baked in his ideals and hardened this rag tag group up. However, literally anyone can score against us, and defensively we are still a shower, and Nathan has one hell of a job on his hands.

A bog of a pitch or not we struggled to keep the ball in play let alone pass it to a teammate. Coventry and REG were the worst offenders.

I was hoping for some earlier subs but with no Wickham, Camara, or Aneke game changers were thin on the ground, although LuaLua put in peach of a cross at the end that we nearly got a winner from.

A winner at the end could have been scored in either net, but Fleetwood had the best chances, mostly due to some slapstick defending.

Our goal came just before half-time when Alfie May won and then dispatched a penalty. Men of the match were thin on the ground but Harry Isted made two certain goal stopping saves.

An ugly game but one nearer to safety and closure.

MoW: Harry Isted.

Elsewhere: Cheltenham got a very good point away at Barnsley, Exeter beat Burton 1-0 and Port Vale lost at home to Oxford. Reading after another tough week thrashed Cambridge 4-0 and Shrewsbury beat Carlisle 1-0 leaving them 16 points from safety.

Well a point is a point at the end of the day….a game to erase from the memory…pitch was very very poor and affected our game badly.
Still got to focus on wins to escape a relegation battle.

Can’t keep blaming the pitch as we have played and defended poor in most games all season, on really good pitches and that includes the games since Jones has come in, though as he has installed a sense of fight in the team which was totally missing before, so have managed to get away with a few, by someone fortunately clearing them up! Every week we continue to make terrible errors at the back no matter who plays and the only person currently I would give a contract to next season in defence is Small, as all the rest, some more than others, continue to do so, with the Fleetwood game being a prime example, as CA as said, was comical! Even the panel of Minto, Brown & Lisbie were trying not to laugh!

Have to agree Mike…we should not be conceeding late goals and I’m sure Nathan and Curtis will spend training sessions focusing on defensive tactics.
We could have easily walked away with a win.

Couldn’t care less about the rest of this season. Can’t go up and won’t go down now. Let Jones weed out those who want to work and those who don’t, obviously most of them are crap and hope to only see about 10-12 of this squad next season…

    • Okay Harry, I’ll start:

      May
      Kanu
      Leaburn
      Coventry
      Anderson
      Small
      T Watson
      Asiimwe
      L Jones
      REG
      Isted
Aneke (as we are probably straddled with him)

      March 17, 2024
      • There are of course many still ‘under contract.’

Ramsey must be included as we paid a fee for him and injury has precluded him showing his ability.
I would also give Thomas another year

          March 18, 2024
          • I think Thomas has played himself into a new deal. He would be a good squad player. I forgot about Ramsey. What about Terry Taylor??

A poor game and a draw was about the right result.

I wish Nathan Jones would make a few earlier substitutions though – we have “gamechangers” on the bench and have just signed two players on short-term contracts, yet one was left at home for unspecified reasons while the other only got a few minutes in injury time.

    • Agree with that SP. Early part of the 2nd half it was calling out for a couple of changes.
