Charlton Athletic 2 Fleetwood Town 1
We needed that. A welcome 3 points and a proud day for Jason Pearce.
I did laugh when Pearcey got booked though, and if you didn’t see it, it wasn’t for a scything tackle.
We did start poorly. Fleetwood buzzed around our half exploiting open spaces and we were lucky to survive a Jayden Stockley free-kick that rattled the underside of the bar and bounced just on the right side of the goal line.
We were way open and Stockley didn’t miss his next opportunity heading in with inexplicably Anderson trying to mark him.
The Lancastrian’s should have been out of sight by the time we finally got into our stride, and minutes before half time Chem Campbell put a perfect ball into Allie May’s path who tore into the box and finished well.
The next 45 were acres better. Tyreece Campbell, his brother Chem and CBT were constant threats down each wing and May was hungry for more.
One ball into CBT saw him tripped for a penalty that May put straight down the middle and got booked for giving it to their keeper. He will be suspended before too long, I make that his 4th yellow.
By the time of the penalty Miles Leaburn was on and we instantly looked more balanced. It was a great cameo from Leaburn, who was equally direct every time he got it, and calm with the ball into him showing some great touches.
Despite maybe a little rustiness, I thought Chem Campbell had a good full debut, Karoy Anderson played very well, and Dobbo kept us ticking over.
May almost got his hat trick and we were pretty much camped in Fleetwood’s half for the last 15 minutes. Then the board went up for 12 minutes and panic set in on my sofa, but we saw the game out well.
It’s nice to win, isn’t it?
MoM: Alfie May
Pearcey: “The referee said I got it because I pulled the fourth official. I was just asking him to get hold of the game. I thought it was a poor tackle, so I just told him. Because I touched his arm that’s why I think I got a yellow.”
Elsewhere: Exeter sit top of the table after beating Burton away, 25,000 saw Bolton beat Derby 2-1 and Stevenage win 3-0 at Leyton Orient. Port Vale are also going well beating Oxford away 201 and Pompey came from behind to beat Posh 3-1.

A welcome win for sure, but not too convincing. There’s still plenty of room for improvement.
The penalty was deserved but poorly executed. Alfie was a tad lucky to get away with it. He does tend to put them straight down the centre. Nonetheless he’s proving to be a little terrier of a striker.
That was the first win coming from a goal behind since Feb 2022, I believe.
Let’s not get too excited. Yes, the 3 points we will gladly take, but against a side that has lost their last 5 games and only have 1 point on the board so far. Realistically we could have been 2 or 3 down in the first 25 minutes. The international break has come at a convenient time for the new players to settle in, and for the managerial question to be resolved.
And breathe out !!!!
Nice to get 3 points even if we rode our luck at times. Jason and Anthonys tenure will now settle players down and we showed yesterday that the players were fully focused and intent to win.
Nice to see Jayden back despite his goal.
I’m hearing rumours that the training ground is not a happy place due to Methven and Scott’s presence…..we all know that Dean did not get on with Scott regarding new players.
We have distant owners who I feel are not aware of what’s going on and putting their trust in Metheven and Scott.
I’m hoping that they will realise soon that our new management is casting a very negative atmosphere within.
After the sacking of Deano and the recent few weeks I’ll forgive the first half display. That was a team running around trying to look like they knew what they were doing while not actually knowing what the plan was. I think (ironically) that it took going a goal down for us to settle and start playing. Thereafter the pieces gradually fell into place and the second half display was much better.
It was a great move for the first goal – in my view that came off the training ground, a longish diagonal ball splitting the defence and Alfie May timed his run perfectly. How many times have we tried that this season only for him to get caught off-side? On this occasion he delayed his run that extra second and was clean through. The second goal looked premeditated as well and CBT in my opinion deliberately fell over the defender’s leg rather than was tripped, a good professional bit of play and dozy defending.
With Miles Leaburn and Tyreece Campbell back and new recruits in the house the new manager will have what Dean Holden didn’t have and that is options upfront. I liked the look of Chem Campbell although he got clobbered twice and was subbed off – welcome to League One…
With two weeks until the next game we have time to get the new manager in and establish a bit of calm.
Dreadfull first half, with the exception of Alfie’s goal!
Much improved second half and actually managed to hold out for the win, at last we all went home happy.
The only real downside is Hectors performance once again, he’s becoming a real liability at the back, another Inniss, but without the injury issues.
