Kanu moves to Walsall on loan

20-year old striker Daniel Kanu has joined Walsall on a season-long loan. I peg this as a really important move for Dan. Hopefully he gets plenty of game time leading to him being a real threat in League Two for The Saddlers.

Nathan Asiimwe clearly benefited from his time under Mat Sadler and Nathan Jones and his coaching team must trust their peers at Walsall.

Aneke red card to stand

It wasn’t a surprise was it that Chuks’ ban was not overturned. It rarely happens that a referee admits to a mistake, and it never happens to us.

This despite obvious video evidence that the coming together between him and the Wycombe player was neither violent conduct nor an elbow in the face.

We really are a pitiful excuse of a football team. Devoid of any quality, creativity and ideas.

Desperately dull and ineffective long diagonal hoof ball, circa 1980, hoping, praying for a flick or a defensive mistake to ‘create’ a chance on goal. That is our sole game plan. Our philosophy, our identity. Heaven help us.

Game on

Saturday’s game at home to Rotherham is on, the club deciding to play it without the services of Daniel Kanu, Karoy Anderson and new signing Kaheim Dixon.

I don’t believe Rotherham have any international call-ups.

Alfie crowned POTY

With a record breaking 82% of the vote 27-goal Alfie May won Sunday’s POTY award voted for by supporter’s.

In 2nd place was George Dobson and 3rd was Terell Thomas, somewhat surprisingly but I bet that the top two made up about 98% of the vote and the rest was shared amongst a number of players.

Player of the Year

A sign that the season is coming to a close with the voting starting for the Addicks 2023/24 POTY award.

Last season the winner was loanee Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, but I don’t see any loan player, and we’ve had eight, getting even a single vote.

Kanu signs contact extension

This is good news. Daniel Kanu’s contract was due to expire in June, but he has today signed a new one until 2027.

If our young academy players are any good, then other teams will want to buy them. Just like, imagine, we ever had a manager that higher placed teams wanted to poach. Because he was good!

Leaburn to miss season

Well, or at best he’ll be back for the play-off’s. Okay, I’ll put the wine 🍷 down.

The news that the club cancelled Daniel Kanu’s loan at Southend this morning was only the prelude to the news that Miles Leaburn had surgery on his hamstring this morning and will be out for five months.

The team that never draws draws against a team that does it a lot.

A very dull first half, a much better 2nd half and a draw probably a fair result. We missed a couple of gilt-edged chances but they hit the bar twice and Maynard-Brewer made a very good double save in the first half.

George Dobson POTY

He got my vote and a large majority of everyone else’s, George Dobson came a long way this season after being frozen out by Nigel Adkins to win the Addicks’ 2021/22 Player of the Year.

Just 24-years-old, Dobson wasn’t only the best of a bad bunch in this turgid of season’s, he was actually very good, and capped an excellent season by scoring a corker at Rotherham a few weeks back.

Wigan Athletic 2 Charlton Athletic 1

A much better performance than Tuesday but the same result at Wigan this afternoon.

With no Aneke, Washington, Stockley, or Scott Fraser we were always going top be up against it. The assumption was that Famewo missed out due to loan numbers. Jacko kept to his 3-5-2 but there were more centre-backs on the bench than in the team. I’m all for having a philosophy, but you also need the players.

We can question recruitment again on this front, or any sense of long-term planning which doesn’t seem to be Sandgaard’s forte….

Kanu signs pro contract

As we get our heads around Mason Burstow being sold to Chelsea after 612 minutes in a first team shirt, the club were quick to offer prolific youth goal scorer Daniel Kanu a professional contract until at least 2024.

The Dartford based 17-year-old has already scored 31 goals this season representing the Addicks at U23, U19 and U17 level and has been on fire in recent weeks helping the U18’s to the 5th Round of the FA Youth Cup
