Kanu signs contact extension
This is good news. Daniel Kanu’s contract was due to expire in June, but he has today signed a new one until 2027.
If our young academy players are any good, then other teams will want to buy them. Just like, imagine, we ever had a manager that higher placed teams wanted to poach. Because he was good!
Every team sells their best players, except a couple. At our current level we have no hope of keeping our good young players but what we can do is put them on good contracts and then negotiate hard from a position of strength.
So, good news on Kanu today. He works hard on and off the pitch and has returned from loan at Southend so much stronger and with an ability to make a real difference in a game. I don’t think he is a proper no. 9 but he can be a great foil up front in a three.
Now, to see Daniel and Miles to play together in the first team, like they have done in the youth’s. That would be something.
Leaburn’s contract runs until the summer of 2025.
Excellent News about Kanu and agree with your comments CA, with the exception I think he will make a good number 9. He is only very young but he handles himself really well for his age and is willing to listen and work really hard to improve himself. Already he has shown his fitness in chasing lost causes similar to Alfie May and has looked much better than Lapado when he has come on and been unlucky not to score.
Kanu needs to start games and be given a few games, like all the other forwards who have been given that chance, but most have failed, but even when he has played well and even scored, he has been dropped for the next game. He needs a decent run so he can link up with May more and get a custom to playing with him.
Lets hope our new manager will give him a decent run and as I think him and May could become a good pairing.
Lets face it on current form he can’t be worse than lapado!
