Alfie crowned POTY

With a record breaking 82% of the vote 27-goal Alfie May won Sunday’s POTY award voted for by supporter’s.

In 2nd place was George Dobson and 3rd was Terell Thomas, somewhat surprisingly but I bet that the top two made up about 98% of the vote and the rest was shared amongst a number of players.

Thomas did make the third most appearances this season behind May and Dobbo with Lloyd Jones and Hector next followed by Kanu.

Off topic, but the craziest stat of the season, and one that points to a whole manner of our issues was that 48 different players were used in all competitions chosen by three different managers, 42 in the league alone. 26 players made their Charlton’s debut, 23 in League One.

The Valiant 500 took from 1921 to 1988 (67 years) with Scott Minto being number 500. We are now on 988, so for the 1,000th Addick will be chosen next season, so that’s in just 36 years. I know there are a lot of reasons for that, but we cannot play 48 players next season.

For those that have never poured over Stuart Court’s CAFC Facts and Stats pages, then they are a must.

Back to the POTY, congratulations to Alfie. As I have said many times, he has a been a rare treat to support.

Daniel Kanu won the Young POTY pipping Karoy Anderson and Carla Humphrey won the Women’s.

Congratulations to all.

CA, give Thomas a break, he has not been allowed to settle in any one position, he has suffered from being versatile but is better than those recruited for central defence i.e REG ,Gillesphey , Jones and Academy graduates Ness and Mitchell, who are still young enough to improve. I personally hope that NJ keeps one out of Thomas and Hector.

The fact that he came 3rd in the poll indicates that the general feeling amongst supporters is positive towards him
