Charlton Athletic 1 Peterborough United 1
The team that never draws draws against a team that does it a lot.
A very dull first half, a much better 2nd half and a draw probably a fair result. We missed a couple of gilt-edged chances but they hit the bar twice and Maynard-Brewer made a very good double save in the first half.
Too early obviously to judge Dean Holden, but the owner went out of his way to hire someone the play a particular system, spent pre-season and 20 league games trying to hone it, then he sacks him and now we have to re-invent the wheel.
I liked that Holden pitched Kanu and Leaburn together and we saw that work well in the 2nd half culminating in the goal, we should have been further ahead but we, as is our want, gifted them an equalizer.
Holden gave Dobson the armband and he was excellent, but here we are again with the bulk of the playing squad not good enough, a manager inserting a new style of play, without the playing staff to do it and we’re approaching a transfer window which we are 100% reliant on, but nervous that the club will sell our best assets.
We have to get to January first…
Dean Holden: “We score a great goal through Miles – it’s a brilliant ball from Daniel. Daniel and Miles want to run in behind, I’d hate to play against the two of them.”
Grant McCann: “We’d have won it then we’d have deserved to win it, based on the first half.”
Stats (CAFC first): Possession – 51% / 49%; Passes – 368 / 341; Accurate passes – 259 / 233; Shots (on target) – 8 (3) / 19 (6)
I thought we played very well given the dominance of Peterborough’s shots on goal etc. Clearly it was their intention to win the game and that our defense held so well to limit them to one goal draw points to that fact. Congratulations on Leaburn’s goal from a Kanu assist. I’d like to see them paired again.
Even though Oxford are struggling, you just know Karl Robinson will put one over us on Thursday. Followed by Portsmouth Monday and we could really be in trouble come end of play.
Have to agree Houndal,
Karl has a track record against us….expect a defeat !!!
Seven consecutive league games without a win. The excuses continue, ‘we were unlucky’ ‘if rak sakyi had scored’ ‘a defensive mistake cost us’
We’re 17th in League 1, Four points (+GD) above relegation. It’s almost mid-season and we still have no idea or capability to win.
Meanwhile deck-chair shifting in the boardroom fills some with hope that January will bring a new and improved first team.
The improvements needed at Charlton Athletic will take more than a couple of free transfers to turn this season around.
We’re in trouble. Finishing 20th will be a ‘success’
Happy new year ……………………..
We played well and limited Peterborough to a few shots…but we got off the hook with two crossbar hits from Peterborough and we failed to score two certain goals….fine margins we can’t afford to squander.
Dobson again ran the show and his influence on others continued.
January looms and I’m hoping for a moves to improve the squad.
Spectre of Karl Robinson awaits…just what we need !!!
Why can we only play well for half a game? We seem to either start slow and play well after the break or start well like when we played B/R and then run out of steam.
“He’s had a bit of an overload issue in his pubis area,” said Holden (as to why Jayesimi was absent)
WTF does that mean?
Is that modern speak for “he’s done his groin” if so just say it and not this bag of bollox (pardon the pun)
Sounds as if he was kicked in the balls. Needs a kick up the arse more like..
