Daniel Kanu moves to Notts County on loan
The club were keen to sell Dan Kanu this summer and raise some funds, but set the price too high it seems. Instead Kanu will move to Notts County on a season long loan.
Last season the 21-year old did very well in L2 at Walsall scoring 15 league goals, his form dropping only in line with Walsall’s as they ended up in 9th.
Kanu was Walsall’s Young Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season.
County have had a good start to their L1 campaign, their first back at this level in 12 seasons. This is a level up and Magpies made a real pitch for Kanu, who has a year left on his contract in SE7.
Equally Kanu wanted the move and it has been signed off today.
A loan leaves us exposed to losing the academy player for nothing next summer. I don’t believe we have an option on him.
His departure does mean we have one more out of the squad number before the deadline.

CA are you wishing our lives away ? 🤔 The club announcement says Kanu remains under contract with the club until 2028, having signed an extension in the summer of 2025, and will therefore still have a year left at the end of this loan ?
According to the OS. Dan is contracted to us until 2028.
Personally I would have kept him and loaned out Mbick.

Thank you both. I must have missed that as my information was that this was his last year. Good news then.
I’ve thought about this a bit more. I don’t see anywhere online where the club announced that extension. I mean it’s great news and hopefully we’ll get him back and he can create a career at Charlton.
