Rumours

The first couple of Charlton transfer rumours surfaced today. I am sure there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes and remember this is still early.

The transfer window doesn’t offically open until June 15th, and players contracts in the EFL all run around ‘til June 30th.

The first rumours related to players that could be sold. Daniel Kanu, who impressed and won a number of individual awards last season on loan at Walsall has been subject to a bid from Luton Town for £750,000. Jon in my comments was the first I saw of that, but it has been followed up elsewhere today. Bromley are also thought to be interested.

15 League Two goals is still a long way of cracking it at Championship level and I’d take the money especially if we can get two or more clubs fighting over the 21-year old. A sell-on should be deemed a necessity.

Alex Mitchell will certainly be thinking over a move to Plymouth, who despite making almost their entire women’s squad redundant apparently do not have financial issues. Relegated Oxford United have also entered the fray for the boy from Windsor, who is still only 24. He was voted Plymouth’s POTY.

The only rumour I have seen with an ounce of probability about it is a move for midfielder Jordan Holsgrove, who plays for GD Estoril Praia in Portugal. I do think we will see incoming activity from overseas, where there is much better value and a Scotsman that came through Reading’s academy at a good age (26) does not look beyond the realms if impossibility.

Rumours, proper ones anyway and not those put on social media platforms by spotty teenagers, are hard to find these days. Nathan Jones is notoriously discreet and despite the prolificacy of places to find transfer gossip, most of it is rubbish.

I used to have a few contacts back in the old days, and knew a couple of people at the club, but that was now a long time ago.

As it was when I lived in Chicago and with the 6-hour time difference I used to get a head-start over Addicks living in the UK, by being able to read the transfer gossip in the online newspapers the night before.

Now’s that showing my age, and we also used to be in the Premier League then so we were it bit more newsworthy.

Interestingly, Jordan is the grandson of South Londoner John Holsgrove, who played for Palace and Wolves in the 1960s.

Personally I would want Daniel Kanu back at Charlton. But then I’m not Nathan Jones…

I do not know enough about most playeres re transfer rumours
But would like suggest one player who i think is a natural true master of his art is that of Charlie Kellman.
Look at his goals for us, not really analyis them especially the one against Hull City. Only very top natural strikers can do that.
His previous manager alluded that the lad sufferrd a bit at times from his nerves and confidince. Tbis i feel this was a problem for Charlie last season, but he overcame it and that Hull City goal and his on pitch after game comments showref total relief, the donkey is off his back. So watch the lad next season, with me foecasting at least a top 12 if not top 10 finish.
Support Charlie with Matty Godden, targetman Lyndon Dykes if he resigns, maybe also Carl Leaburn and keep Daniel Kanu eben if for a while his loaned out to a Div 1 side suchbas Wimbledon
Bolster midfield with the right accusitions. Plus the players, team , and club learnt at lot together last term.

Agree about Kelman Peter. We haven’t seen the best of him yet. Not sure he should be paired with Godden though as they are similar players in stature, and both need a ‘lump’ to feed off.
Kelman looked more effective when paired with Dykes last season, but I suspect the latter will be tempted elsewhere for higher wages.
Leaburn is an enigma, and hasn’t shown his best form for the last two seasons. He doesn’t seem to have made the step up to Championship level, and looks disinterested at times.
In my opinion a regular number 9 is a must in the transfer window, but as we all know, they are like gold dust at Championship standard.

When at Orient Kelman played at the pivot of two wide players and a 10.

A lot of players flourish in their second year at a higher level. I think Charlie will be one of them.

First of all enjoy your reunion trip, unfortunately having grown up in Bolton all my school friends are Bolton fans so when we meet up we talk of games gone by. Anyway I agree with everyone kelman is a most this season we saw glimpse of is quality last season hopefully godden and dykes sign, leaburn well the talent is there but how do you help him progress, although the season is over you just can’t help yourself checking on rumours and checking in on the club. Big rumour up this end is Wrexhams Davis Keillor dunn but that would cost us. A eventful summer ahead coyr

Any sale of DK has to start at 7 figures with a chunky sell on clause. Our view of ‘our own’ youngsters is always deeply rose tinted and DK’s a top bloke (went to a great school too) but he ain’t close to Championship regularity, we can’t hold him back and we need the funds under the new Propping Up The Premier League “sustainability” restrictions. Obviously Argyle want Mitchell, who ain’t close to Championship standard (yet, 24??) but we shouldn’t undervalue him either.
Won’t be very many coming in – the whole back line needs major strengthening if another turgid season is to be avoided

We Grammar School boys were only allowed to play with funny shaped balls in my day but I dunno if that persisted until young DK attended that institution

Sorry i did not mean Kellman snd Godden as a partnership, altough it migjt be worth a trial in say a friendly or looking to play 3 up front. My meaning was they atr both natural scorers that you cannot coach, nut that they are both with us.
On Charlie go and look really at his goals this year on limited starts and game time, and you will come awsy saying that he really top draw. All he needs is his confidence and good management. He is who is and hr “dores what it says on the tin”
Next year for Chatlie i proffer POTY.

I’d get rid of both Campbell and Leaburn and use the funds for a quality striker. I’d keep Mbick and Kanu. Both these players are on the up, Campbell and Leaburn have plateau’d.
DK could perform Campbell’s role and I think he’s quicker. Seem to recall he played in that position at home to Birmingham when we were in League 1.
