Charlton Athletic 2 Burton Albion 1

A fantastic few home days for Addicks. Tonight was nowhere near the level of performance of Saturday, but 3 more points puts us in a very strong position.

Lee Bowyer made four changes. Two enforced with Reeves and Fosu replacing Bielik and Williams, both nursing hamstrings while Solly came in for an unfortunate Dijksteel and Josh Parker swapped with Vetokele. Jason Pearce was on the bench.

All the action seemed to happen in the first six minutes. Taylor put wide, Fosu hit the uderside of the bar and Bauer got a good block on a goalbound Burton effort. Then Taylor won a penalty and strolled up to score.

Charlton Athletic 2 Gillingham 0

Another straightforward home win. We could get used to this.

Gills showing up without talisman Tom Eaves was a real plus, and although we were often sloppy in our passing, the Kent side never threatened after we took a 6th minute lead. They did however start the brighter and came close to taking the lead themselves hitting the outside of a post.

Charlton Athletic 3 Wycombe Wanderers 2

I watched today’s game on iFollow. Couple of nice and fair Wycombe commentators talked us through an open game which saw us just about hang on for a 3-2 win and 3 more points. Why don’t Charlton sign up to iFollow. Anyone know?

We kicked off and took the game to the Chairboys energetically. That lasted 3 minutes, after that we were pretty dire, and although Williams scored with an excellent curling shot he had our penalty box to himself.

Wycombe played high up the pitch with good tempo and were the better side in the first half half hour. Then we started to get the ball out wide, Grant was causing some damage and out of the blue we scored. Jombati slicing into his own net from a teasing Lewis Page cross.

It’s the rules

Apparently there was a game tonight, and apparently Tarique Fosu didn’t play. So far so good. And we drew, well lost. On penalties. And, as it turns out, in the most ridiculous rule of all off football time, Fosu was banned from playing, but it didn’t count towards his three-match ban. Yep, EFL you really are..

Bristol Rovers 1 Charlton Athletic 1

An away point is still an away point..

I’m in Sarasota at the moment and was unable to pay yesterday’s game a lot of attention, but it said a lot about what Lee Bowyer has brought that the result was considered disappointing.

From looking around at the post match comments it sounded like the performance lacked the intensity and attacking quality of the previous games, yet the pitch was poor and Bristol Rovers are not.

Northampton Town 0 Charlton Athletic 4

Lee, what have you done with our Charlton..

I was at Sixfields last season, it was one very depressing afternoon. It was last March, but it isn’t what difference a year makes, it’s what difference one man makes. The Lee Bowyer show blew through Sixfields this afternoon like a tornado. It was a performance of total domination and attacking devastation. Those there and from the radio said that 8-0 wouldn’t have been unrealistic.

Charlton Athletic 1 Gillingham 2

New low..

it’s relegation form. 3 points from 24. 8 games without a win and dumped out of the FA Cup. Today and the next three games were a brilliant opportunity to thrust us back into promotion picture. Yet, now we sit 4 points off the play-off’s, 17 from automatic and 19 points adrift of the top. We have the worst goal difference in the top half of the table, but a game in hand. Against second placed unshakable Shrewsbury.

If the first half at Southend was atrocious, no words exist for today’s first 45. Only Robinson knows why he left Aribo and KAG on the bench. How rubbish is Reeves? No leaders on the pitch. A hapless back four, and when will we learn to not bring back players not fully fit. JFC and Best injured today. Reeves pointless and Magennis lost.

Time to step up

Karl Robinson has talked about Mark Marshall and Ben Reeves like the coming of the new messiah’s. Reeves missed the whole of pre-season and was signed horribly unfit and with December around the corner he has only played about 120 minutes of league football. Marshall was more unfortunate getting injured in pre-season, and only started his first league game at home to MK Dons on Saturday.

Charlton Athletic 3 Truro City 1

Straight forward. Ish..

Sounded like a decent game in which Truro very much played their part. The Cornishman grabbing a deserved goal through the impressive Tyler Harvey and the tie was no way a stroll, equally I was happy to see us move past inferior opposition (I say that with the deepest respect to the Cornishmen) with some ease, which has rarely been the case in recent decades.

We scored at good times. Ben Reeves, who looks to have a real eye for goal, got us off to the perfect start scoring with a lovely finish in the 10th minute.

We could have extended our lead before the break, but Solly had to clear one of the line as Truro stayed in it.

Check it out

Ben Reeves scored a nice little taster of a goal tonight as a youthful Addicks won rather easily at the Checkatrade.com stadium in the pointless Checkatrade Trophy against Crawley Town.

12 academy graduates were named in Robinson’s 16-man squad, who managed to navigate around the stupid rules mostly becsause Josh Magennis and Jay Dasilva were away on international duty. 10 of the academy boys got on the field including George Lapslie (photo), who scored our second 20 minutes from time.

Reeves signs

At last. More will he wont he’s than a vegetarian sat in front of bacon sandwich.

Ben Reeves, a long time target of Karl Robinson, signed a 2-year contract this afternoon. Reeves is an attacking midfielder with a good eye for goal and played 86 league games in 4-years for MK Dons scoring 24 goals. The Dorset born 25-year old has 2 Northern Ireland caps.

Video nasty

Karl Robinson’s impassioned post transfer video appearance was odd. He should have probably counted to 100 before he started but evidently our Karl can’t resist a camera and a microphone.

So which player was he on about and what club was getting the full force of his anger?
