Charlton Athletic 2 Shrewsbury Town 0

The final Valley game of the season and a victory in front of a crowd of 11,207. I wonder how many of those will buy a season ticket for next season?

It was typical of an end of season game, the first half was pretty turgid but the second was better and after Craig MacGillivray made a double save just after the start we were the dominant side with the Shrews rarely gambling men forward into dangerous offensive areas.

Gateshead 0 Charlton Athletic 2

It was all about the result this. We are not the best at negotiating banana skins, especially when combined with games being shown live on the box.

I didn’t see the game as I was travelling and working but have caught upoin it. Sounded as if the Heed gave us some wobbles at the back, with Stephen Henderson in what was much needed fine form.

Stockley signs 3-year deal

Signing no.1 ✔️

A popular one I’d image as Jayden Stockley completes his move to Charlton from Preston. The 27-year old has signed for three years. The fee officially undisclosed, is thought to be £450,000.

Sunderland 1 Charlton Athletic 2

A proper result that.

Huge defensive effort, lots of second ball wins, and we were quick to get forward to create chances. All without that sense of inevitability at the end, although that last ten plus six add-ons did seem like a lifetime.

We were slow out of the gate though and had to thank Amos for keeping us on level terms in the early exchanges. One save from Wyke in particular prevented a sure goal. Pratley at fault, but this was not a trademark error-prone display.

Charlton Athletic 2 Gillingham 3

Another three conceded at home. Another defeat. Another miserable day.

The pitch was only passed fit less than an hour before kick-off with loud mouth Evans wanting the game off, and Charlton wanting the game played…. of course!

That’s quite a crushing defeat knocking any renewed confidence after last week and proving again that this is not a promotion winning team. There are a good 7-8 sides consistently better than us. In fact we have not dominated a team above us in any league meeting this season and the games keep getting ticked off.

Stockley in. Bogle out?

The number 9 shirt has finally been filled after Preston’s Jayden Stockley signed on loan for the rest of the season.

Stockley made an impression last year at The Valley, but this season has found starting hard at Preston with Tom Barkhuizen, Scott Sinclair and Sean Maguire ahead of him and recently they added Ched Evans as well.
