The club have started negotiations with new contract offers to Michael Hector, Aaron Henry and Terell Thomas.

Ryan Inniss, Albie Morgan, Sean Clare, Alex Gilbey, Macauley Bonne and Nathan Harness will all leave after the expiration of their contracts.

JFC moves to Stevenage

The first piece of January transfer business sees an exit for Jake Forster-Caskey on a permanent deal to Stevenage.

After this season mostly being an outcast, the 28-year leaves the club having played 128 games for the Addicks, scoring 13 goals.

The final Valley game of the season and a victory in front of a crowd of 11,207. I wonder how many of those will buy a season ticket for next season?

It was typical of an end of season game, the first half was pretty turgid but the second was better and after Craig MacGillivray made a double save just after the start we were the dominant side with the Shrews rarely gambling men forward into dangerous offensive areas.

Those beers after a Saturday home win always taste good. đŸș đŸ€•

It was much needed, and although the first half was largely forgettable and we were second-best for a big chunk of it, we did end it on the front foot and the 2nd half saw us deservedly take our first three points since December 11th.

Like father, like son

A bit of a weird one for me to be honest. I am quite friendly with the Lee family, although not enough to have any real intel, but I am sure Elliot Lee joining the Addicks’ today on loan will have raised a smile with both his grandad and father.

Oxford United 2 Charlton Athletic 1

I’m not one for looking at the league table or casting season-long aspersions after three games, but I would like to see a glimmer of possibility, a framework, a promising player, a style of play, but today was again poor.

After a pre-season of much hype of player acquisitions, a defined style of play and rock n’ roll what has been served up so far has been pretty uninspiring. We were a long way second-best today, overrun in midfield, error prone in front of our own goal and bereft of attacking ideas…. the long hoof in the general direction of Stockley’s head will become very tiresome, very soon.

I was off the radar yesterday. I think that is what the glued-to-the-election-other-half said to me when I eventually got home last night before falling asleep on the sofa.

Thanks to Benjy Nurick’s Twitter feed I did manage to follow the game and at 2-0 with us steaming forward at every opportunity and not having conceded a goal forever the game sounded a forgone conclusion with just over half an hour gone.

Spoke too soon I said to myself after Ched Evans scored twice in two minutes to bring Fleetwood level.

Morgan and Davison sign new contracts

Good news today as the club made a positive investment in the future by offering new contracts to Albie Morgan and Josh Davison.

Morgan and Davison, both 20, signed three and two years deals respectively. Davison has an option of a further year.

Oh Albie

I am on a self imposed social media ban. The negativity is caustic. Anyways it was bought to my attention that Albie Morgan has come under criticism for his ‘liking’ Karlan Grant’s post gloriously celebrating Huddersfield’s 4-0 win on Saturday.

I always thought of Morgan older than his years, but publicly approving to Grant’s finger to lips action was rather stupid. He has since unliked what he liked, so guess that’s okay.

Bowyer critical of Morgan

Lee Bowyer cheery, positive and brutally honest in today’s pre-weekend press conference.

Cheery that he has an almost full squad to pick from, positive after last week’s crucial win and a high energy week of training, but brutally honest about some of his players.

There’s been many games this season where Bowyer could not name a full bench, but with Cullen, Taylor, Williams, Hemed, Oztumer, Forster-Caskey and Amos all fit enough for action and with Aneke and Lapslie to next two to come back, and then add in the three transfer deadline additions, Bow has for the first time in months choices.

Swansea City 1 Charlton Athletic 0

So proud of that Charlton team tonight, six 20 or under players featuring. They took the game to Swansea on their own patch and dominated the 2nd half. Not one hid, and they moved the ball well and chased every lost cause.

Davison, Dempsey, Morgan, Vennings, Doughty and not forgetting Conor Gallagher were a credit. Again, thank you for your hard work and expertise Steve Avory.

That was about as far removed from a Lee Bowyer’s team performance as possible. It was awful, and my heart goes out to the brave 500 or so Addicks who wasted a day if not longer going up there to watch it. Including Matt Southall. Legends all.

Charlton Athletic 2 Cardiff City 2

It was a good, open game for the Sky cameras, but we can’t afford to give away two-goal leads, but in the end we have to be pleased to take a point and after their second I was happy to see us go for it and try to get the winner.

We started slowly but took the lead with our first real attack. Gallagher showing great awareness and desire to continue his run into the box and slot home after Leko missed a pass from Bonne, who deserved the assist.

We relaxed after and got the passing game going as the Covered End turned the volume up.

Good times

A lot of smiling Addicks getting a well earned rest during the international break. The Championship is a great league, one of Europe’s most competitive and it feels good to be back and thus far we have not looked out of place at all.

We have played 4 of the top 7 and lost just once. In only one game did we not do ourselves justice, and that was at Wigan. Yet a week later we bounced back in the best possible way, memorably beating Leeds. I’m still glowing from the Fulham game. We didn’t win, but it was a great advert for the league and we played our part and that away corner was, as someone we know would say, bouncing.

Just the one out on loan

What with first Beram Kayal’s delayed loan and then the ongoing signing of Tomer Hemed, transfer deadline day was a bit of a moving target for us Addicks, but yesterday’s transfer deadline #2 didn’t really shake any foundations as only one young squad member headed out on loan.

Brendan Wiredu goes out on loan to Colchester United until January. The 19-year featured in Lee Bowyer’s pre-season plans and was at Bromley at the end of last season. Colchester have good pedigree of producing and improving young players and Wiredu made his debut tonight for the U’s in the EFL trophy.
