A few notes from tonight’s fan meeting

I watched the ‘meet the director fan meeting tonight. Not sure how many of you did, certainly the viewer number count on You Tube never got above 500, and we found out tonight that we have 12,500 season ticket holders. It is here if you want to watch the recording.

Charlotte Richardson hosted Board Chair Gavin Carter, Managing Director Jim Rodwell until he had to go, and then CFO Ed Warwick for just over an hour in what has been described as part of the club’s fan engagement framework.

No new CEO

After a few weeks of speculation Gavin Carter today put on record that the club and Dane Murphy have mutually agreed that he will not be taking up the role of Chief Executive Officer, as previously announced.

Murphy may or may not have been the right person to lead the club forward, but it is best that everyone moves on.

CAFC finances 2023/24

Charlton Athletic’s 2023/24 finances were published today and football economics expert Kieran Maguire was quick to make an assessment. Read down Kieran’s tweets here for Charlton commentary.

Maguire also cautioned that “Charlton’s auditors are unable to say whether or not the 23/24 accounts are accurate following a cyber attack against the club which meant that the auditors could not obtain supporting evidence.”

Charlie Methven to leave club

The scalpel was again taken to Charlton’s senior management board today with the announcement that CEO Charlie Methven has stepped down and will leave the club.

In a carefully worded statement Methven thanks a load of people including Gavin Carter, Paul Elliot and Nathan Jones but not Jim Rodwell, who I imagine is currently typing into AI his leaving letter.

Charlie’s Brown stuff

The ghost of Christmas past.

Charlton CEO Charlie Methven has been on the sherry after a 5-0 win and has broken his silence.

Rich Cawley has all the soundbites.

Delivering where it really matters

It really is what happens on the pitch that matters, and that has been garbage for many seasons now for which many are culpable.

Charlie Methven should be given some credit for regularly opening up with the ongoing progress of the football club. He talks a good game.

How does Nathan Jones play

I spent a little time these last few days looking at some videos and articles on how Nathan Jones set up his teams, mostly Luton of course.

I mean, at the moment for us it is substance over style. We haven’t kept a clean sheet since Nathan Jones first went to choir practice, and on Saturday go into our biggest game for many years.

So, I think for almost all Addicks we just want the Welshman to get us back to basics and bring a bit of pride back.

Nathan Jones set to be appointed

Last night mid transfer deadline ‘excitement’ Rich Cawley posted that Charlton’s hierarchy had made their decision to offer the vacant manager / head coach job to Nathan Jones.

Nathan Jones…. You’ve been gone too long

Just over 10 years to be precise, when the then highly rated young coach left to join the burgeoning project at Brighton.

Now the Addicks board are in deep consideration of offering him the vacant position of head coach at The Valley.

Exactly what it said on the tin

Some words from the self-appointed senior management team tonight. Zero unaccountability in there and zero signs of planning for failure, which Scott, Methven and Rodwell must becoming accustomed too.

Yet, they will still take their pay as the bloated management team work out what to do next, no doubt leaving it to Andy Scott to bring the promises and the affirming words.

Charlton Athletic 2 Northampton Town 3

Tonight Charlton are looking for their 17th permanent manager in less than 18 years after Alan Curbishley gracefully left his post.

Michael Appleton’s final game was anything but graceful and in a bear pit of an atmosphere he was fired straight after the game following another injury time defeat, this time to Northampton Town who scored their winner in the 97th minute.

Michael Appleton appointed

Apologies for not posting sooner. This has taken me a little while, and also a lot of Peroni to get to the conclusion that I am not particularly bothered about our next manager head coach.

Michael Appleton, a much ridiculed individual on Charlton Life, has been chosen as the next man to attempt to turn around this sinking titanic of a football club we support.

Slobodan Tedic makes it a wrap

The 23-year old Man City striker has signed on a season-long loan. He did get his L1 legs at Barnsley last season but mostly from the bench. He scored 4 goals.

Prior to that he scored 2 in 21 starts plus copious sub appearances for PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie. That is not a particularly stunning goal record. He has never played for Man City, although their scouts saw something in the Serbian to give him a four-year contract

Beam me up Scotty

So, what did we find out yesterday.

Andy Scott will be the key decision maker in choosing a new manager, as well as bringing in and selling players this week. Andy is a busy man. Charlie Methven is keeping his counsel and the merry band of other investors and board members are silent.

Sacked by text

A classy move by old Etonian Charles Harry Finlayson Methven and ex-defensive clogger and career CEO Jim Rodwell.

Tells you all need to know about the men we now have to put our trust in selecting the next Charlton Athletic manager to join the circus.

Who are the Senior Management Team?

Andy Scott is the latest member of the new Charlton Athletic Senior Management Team (SMT). Scott was always expected to return once SE7 Partners took control of the club. He joined Messrs. Rodwell, Warrick and Holden in December parachuted in to take a look under the bonnet whilst Thomas Sandgaard considered his options.

Scott’s main responsibility was to support the transfer activity in January. I reckon that was graded a D at best, but there were a lot of cooks in the kitchen and Sandgaard was very much the man behind the curtain with both hands firmly on the budget.
