Exactly what it said on the tin
Some words from the self-appointed senior management team tonight. Zero unaccountability in there and zero signs of planning for failure, which Scott, Methven and Rodwell must becoming accustomed too.
Yet, they will still take their pay as the bloated management team work out what to do next, no doubt leaving it to Andy Scott to bring the promises and the affirming words.
They will also be praying that Curtis Fleming, a man they parachuted in, will somehow turnaround this pig’s ear they have created in the first place.
Hand picked by the SMT Michael Appleton was accepted by Addicks with universal indifference. I didn’t see or read one ounce of excitement about Appleton’s appointment who had gone from meme to manager in true Charlton comedic style.
Appleton was exactly what it said on the tin, but once the top was peeled off it gave us an unpleasant taste of nondescript and uninspiring stodge. The sell by date has now passed and we are back to square one again but this time facing a real relegation threat.
Career CEO Rodwell, old Etonian Methven and puppeteer Scott on their arrival pronounced that they will bring a winning mentality and will put their mark on the football club. They have certainly done that!

The “up date” on the O/S is utter garbage personified.
I actually burst out laughing at the utter bollox spouted forth. Well at least we know its the fans fault we are where we are.
Bring back Sandgaard!!
Hate to say it, but part of me actually hopes we get relegated so this bunch of chancers lose a few bob.
What a situation.
A statement of absolute shite by the board. If it was left to us true Charlton supporters we wouldn’t be where we are now. I am at a loss to understand how so many people have got it so wrong for so many years now. Will have an extra line in the lottery tomorrow, the £110 million might just about get us out of trouble !! Lol.
The first worrying signs about SE7 Partners was in one of their early announcements when I think it was Methven who said that Charlton would no longer be pursuing Category 1 status for the Academy while at the same time saying that the future of the Club was with its youth player development.
If Charlton had retained Peter Storrie as Chief Executive and Steve Gallen as Technical Director then I am sure we would be in a far better place at this moment in time.
Oh dear – and my recollection is that everyone was slagging Steve Gallen to hell and back. And as for wishing for relegation so these people lose money – they really aren’t that stupid. The only people who will lose anything is us – the supporters. The SMT will not be out of pocket – quite the opposite.
So CA – when does all this stop? I am with you all with my cynicism about the people at the top involved in MY club. But where is this getting us? They are what we have and we can do nothing about it, so how about a bit of positivity. The other thing we have failed to face up to properly and accept is that we are a mid-table League 1 club with (mostly) League 1 players. Get over it. However, take a good look at the other clubs in our division who do not have the potential fanbase that we have, who do not have a ground that will accommodate any kind of success, that do not have a fantastic Academy that will help keep us afloat whilst we re-build. I have never liked the idea of selling our young players, in fact I hate it, but it is a reality of the modern game. And they do not have, and will never have, the memories that I have of supporting MY club in the top flight. So what do we do so that our younger fans have that opportunity once again (personally I don’t even want that – the Championship will do me)?
Perhaps, and say this very quietly, we could start supporting our team. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a player with our club at the moment, but it can only be miserable. Having your own fans tell you you are the worst team ever and criticising their every move – booing them. And then fans have the nerve to say they lack confidence. I’m not bloody surprised. I do not accept that (most) of these players are not trying – I think most of them were doing the very best they can on Tuesday night. Poor old Alfie and the new boy Bakinson ran their socks off. Don’t you dare tell me they don’t care. So why was I the only person in my bit of the East Stand who was clapping them, and encouraging them – there were some good bits of play (if you have your League 1 glasses on). Yes, we have been hard done by with crap owners but we are where we are – we have a relegation battle on our hands so we need to get behind them. Some of them are so young it makes me want to weep. I appreciate the boos were for Appleton and the SMT on Tuesday – and I am all for letting my feelings known (ask Roland) – but make a few banners you lazy sods so its clear and go round the back of the West Stand at the end of the game and protest. Leave my players alone.
Better shut up now CA although I could go on. I clearly need a rest from social media.
What they didn’t say:
Michael Appleton was appointed head coach of Charlton Athletic in September 2023. he was appointed following an extensive search and we were sure that we had got the right man.
Unfortunately, we got that appointment wrong, we panicked and removed Dean Holden without first giving him the time and support to turn things around. We will not make that mistake again! Except this time!
We would like to thank Michael for his efforts, and wish him all the best for the future.
We are once again, starting the search for another manager (having removed Michael before any succession planning had taken place). I’m sure that given Charlton’s reputation for allowing coaches the time and space to develop teams, we will attract a top coach. There are many coaches out there, willing to give up their careers to join us for 5 months and be unceremoniously removed.
We are in charge of Charlton and we will fire anyone that is not performing to the standards that we set. You as supporters are not allowed to know what those standards are and we reserve the right to change them at any time.
What I say:
There is something missing from our club. When I was a small boy, we called it class. It is a simple sense of humanity and decency. During my work career I have built many teams, I have always found that the basic ingredient in their success, is a sense of decency, humanity and honesty. That is a pre-requisite to getting people who will go the extra mile to get the job done and to a team spirit that ensures success.
Our board does not seem to have any of those qualities, they have allowed Michael to endure a tortuous pre-match press conference. That horror show was followed by his unceremonious removal and public humiliation for following day. They did so without comment or communication to us the fans. Yes, they have subsequently made a bland statement, one straight out of the “this is what to tell the mugs” play book. I think that a board representative should have put themselves front and centre and made a statement or addressed the fans in the post-match interview. Failure to do that or even to thank Michael for his efforts and wish him the best for the future (come on, how hard would that have been), speaks volumes.
Having already gotten rid of two managers without supporting them, one wonders how long the owners will persevere with a senior management team devoid of the qualities required for success. Our eyes are now firmly fixed upon you Scott!
