Michael Appleton appointed
Apologies for not posting sooner. This has taken me a little while, and also a lot of Peroni to get to the conclusion that I am not particularly bothered about our next manager head coach.
Michael Appleton, a much ridiculed individual on Charlton Life, has been chosen as the next man to attempt to turn around this sinking titanic of a football club we support.
I was driving this morning when my brother buzzed my phone with the news of Appleton’s appointment. I drove for the next twenty miles numb, swirling the idea around my mind but without any feelings positively or negatively, just a deep inertia of nothing.
This football club that has given me in my 50 years of supporting them the highest highs and the lowest lows in my life, yet this moment gave me nothing because being a manager of Charlton Athletic sadly had no significance to me anymore.
Simon Lenagan, Jim Rodwell and Andy Scott chose Appleton as our next manager. Sorry, but who are you exactly? It’s not your money, or your expertise or your vocation.
I can’t believe in Michael Appleton because he brings nothing to believe in. I don’t know anything about his philosophy or personality, but I do know that Wikipedia tells me that almost a decade ago he got Oxford United promoted from League 2.

Michael, welcome to SE7, not sure you care about me, or other Addicks, but possibly a middling third tier club and a third ranked manger could be the start of something.
I hope you become something that we can believe in, because I need a lot of convincing.
Yep, an underwhelming appointment to accompany the underwhelming transfer window. An out of work manager, whose only real claim to fame has been a promotion once from league 2. It seems anyone (players and coaches) with any successful pedigree are giving us a wide berth……..can we really blame them? Of course there is the possibility of Appleton being the New Messiah, so we must give him a chance. I wonder what odds William Hill give on him being at the club at the end of the season !!!

One thing will interest me in the coming months. I was hoping Hector would step up to the plate as the senior/experienced man in the defence and take ownership So far this season he has played as if he had just had a quick splifff before kick off and I wonder if Holden was the issue.
I hope his attitude changes under Appleton.
In fact the whole team need to change its attitude.

This was a hard read CA, but I think we can all relate to your emotions right now.
I had had a few beers, but it is pretty much where I am at.
I’m not alone in feeling totally under-whelmed by this appointment CA…. and to be quite honest, I’m getting past caring.
It’s just one ridiculous appointment after another – in they come, talking the talk, but being tactically inept…. just playing one way and unable to be able to think about any sort of plan B or C (or if they have, then having a total lack of skill in being able to pass that on to the players) when the opposition ‘susses’ out the original tactic and nullifies it.
We can only hope that Michael Appleton IS the Messiah, and not just another naughty boy, who will eventually oversee the inevitable drop into division 2 and sell off what little talent remains at the club…. until the club is bankrupted and the value of the land is cashed in, for that must be the ‘cunning plan’ of Charlie and his pals and the only worthwhile return on the £10m investment that they have made.
Or the 500k in Methven’s case.
