Consortium led by Paul Elliott

Repeat. No, not that one. ⬅️

Consortium (kən-ˈsȯr-sh(ē-)əm) – an agreement, combination, or group (as of companies) formed to undertake an enterprise beyond the resources of any one member

Paul Elliott is leading a consortium as this week’s owners of Charlton Athletic. On the Official Site he says: “On behalf of the consortium I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to take ownership of Charlton Athletic. I recognise this club means so much to its fans and I will take the responsibility very seriously.”

He then goes onto mention illuminating words such as stability, unified, passion, together, determination and focus.

Elliott is a successful businessman…. aren’t they all, and his name will join the burgeoning EFL file of Charlton Athletic Owners’ and Directors’ Tests.

I’d like to put on record my thanks to Matt Southall and HE Tahnoon Nimer, true legends in their own lunchtimes who spend a pound between them and bestowed absolutely nothing accept for bullshit, lies and knavery.

Agree with it all of course, although if it all works as I am thinking and hoping it will, I may still reserve some kind of weird ‘thank you’ to Nimer for ‘selling’ to these people and not to some others – Cellini, Bassini, Mussolinii and all. Elliot and Farnell do seem to have some kind of relationship with Peter Varney which has to be good right?. Not sure and hopefully we’ll never know how it would work out in Italian or Portugese ownership, I for one would lean to a lifelong Charlton fan from Kent, feel free to call me old fashioned lol

I’ve seen third world tin-pot nations run by Juntas with more stability than our club, this is the third set of owners this year…

It might be early days and I might be somewhat jaundiced, but this “consortium”, who’s in it? Are they all established business partners/friends who have known and worked with each other in the past, or is it a cut’n’shut job put together by Farnell by people who barely know each other? Only if it is the latter we’ve just had that and it doesn’t work, not with a loss making football club that needs an injection of funds and will remain in the red for sometime. Plus, who is fronting up the money? What are their immediate plans? Will debt be laden onto the club? Who will be running the club on a day-to-day basis? And please no more MBA at night school management buzzwords.

  3. I imagine the limited amount of information on the consortium/Elliott can only mean that this is the temporary caretaker ownership that Farnell described recently and in the coming days/weeks it will be announced that Barclay/Varney have bought the club from our friend Mr Elliott.

The pace that the EFL move at, the fit and proper person for Paul Elliott will be irrelevant. We still wait for news on the investigation into the previous sale however or is that now of no consequence the club has been flipped again…

Are the EFL going to look favourably on a temporary ownership situation I have my doubts if it is not resolved quickly by a Varney/Barclay purchase.
