Ronnie Schwartz’s contract cancelled

This is harsh lesson for Thomas Sandgaard.

Ronnie Schwartz was openly courted by the owner, and eventually captured as our banner first signing in the January transfer window for a fee posted in the £500,000 range. Today Ronnie Schwartz has had his contract cancelled with 22 months remaining and has left the club.

Ryan & Ronnie

What a pair. One made of glass the other invisible ink.

Inniss is a real shame. The big fella has real ability and is very capable of playing well above this level, but signing him was always going to be a risk and so it has proven.

No Ronnie

No Ronnie Schwartz tonight in the Pizza Trophy at The Valley against Crawley Town. Nigel Adkins has changed the whole team from Saturday, and includes Elliot Lee, Corey Blackett-Taylor and Nathan Harness and is captained by Jason Pearce.

AFC Wimbledon 2 Charlton Athletic 2

And repeat.

That was different wasn’t it? Let me just put this here ⤵️

“Plenty of huff and puff, the occasional bum off the seat moment, more hands over the eyes moments, saw plenty of the ball, but were sloppy and showed no real goal threat, and then there was another defensive lapse costing a goal.”

That’s what I wrote last Saturday.

Oxford United 0 Charlton Athletic 0

Steve Brown said the game lacked quality. It lacked most things in all honesty – two mid-table teams playing the season out.

Nothing during that 90 minutes to scare the current top 6 incumbents, but there are still some upside down results and if Schwartz had scored we’d have been two points from the top six which is pretty nuts when you think of our form since the turn of the year.

Charlton Athletic 4 Rochdale 4

That was like watching us in the late 70’s. For those of you old enough to remember. Soul destroying, uplifting and slapstick in equal measures.

In all honesty the first half was pretty abominable. Our five man defence parted like the Red Sea on numerous occasions, and yes Rochdale probably couldn’t believe their luck as they hit goal of the season bingo with every effort on target, but it was another harrowing start to the first half. Well the middle, and end too.

Millar time

On the face of it, we have to be quite pleased with this early transfer business. Two players signed up in positions that badly need attention (our defence is still a slice of Edam cheese though).

Ronnie Schwartz has an enviable record and Liam Millar comes with a good pedigree and desperately needed pace.

Ronnie’s in the hus

As anticipated Ronnie Schwartz signed for Charlton today on a two and a half year contract for an undisclosed amount of Krona.

Courted in the late summer, but eventually our last minute offer turned down, Thomas has finally got his man, and Ronnie becomes the first non-British permanent signing of the Bowyer/Gallen era.

Ronnie Schwartz

Last time we bought a player called Ronnie, we all had to dig deep into our pockets to afford him. Almost 40 years later that won’t be necessary this time as Thomas Sandgaard appears desperate to part with some his well earned Krone.

Schwartz has been on Sandgaard’s shopping list since he bought the Addicks just prior to the end of the ‘summer’ transfer window in October. I’m not sure how much Steve Gallen knew of the Midtjylland striker, but I’m hoping that since then the 31-year old has passed the Gallen & Bowyer sniff test, as we’ve had our fill of players hoisted own management by owners.
