Edwards suffers injury setback

Word had got out this week that Josh Edwards had suffered a setback in his injury return, and that was confirmed by Nathan Jones tonight.

Edwards had been seen in training, and it was even thought he was within weeks of a return, but stories of him having a breakdown now appear true.

Edwards and Godden

Rarely a game goes by when Josh Edwards is not in the wars. The likable Scottish ball of energy doesn’t have the word shirk in his dictionary.

Today Nathan Jones said that Edwards’ ankle damage is going to mean he “will probably be out a little bit longer than a few weeks.”

Talking Point 🗣️

We all know it was only the first game, and there are 45 to play, but I’m still wallowing a little bit from Saturday’s win over Watford. Back to earth tomorrow though when we host Stevenage in the Carabao Cup, and whilst we hadn’t played Watford since 2015, this is our 7th meeting with Stevenage in less than three years.

Wycombe Wanderers 0 Charlton Athletic 0

That was a battle, pretty gruesome at times, but we were equal to everything that was thrown at us, including the odd elbow and lunging tackle.

A clean sheet and level after the first leg. Back to The Valley we go.

Wrexham 3 Charlton Athletic 0

That was thoroughly disappointing.

Two early quick fire goals stunned us and Wrexham simply out-Charlton’d us throughout and were deserved winners. Fair play to them and Parky.

Job done. I’m not sure I have seen such a dominating one half display from the Addicks for a long time.

After the somewhat unforeseen win at Bolton we just had to follow that up with two banana-skin looking home games, and we did.

Edwards injury update

The club and specifically it’s most important mouthpiece, Nathan Jones, have been notoriously uncommunicative about injuries since, well since Jones walked into the building.

However the font of secret information, Rich Cawley, appears to have found out that Josh Edwards’ injury will keep him “sidelined for weeks rather than months.” (more)

Wigan Athletic 0 Charlton Athletic 1

A 1-0 clean sheet away win, something that was improbable all of last season. It was a fine way to start the season.

Lloyd Jones’ 81st minute controlled finish the difference between the two sides with solidity, concentration and hard work overcoming Wigan’s possession based style.

Josh Edwards signs on 4-year contract

A little known fact is that Dunfermline is twinned with Sarasota. That is my only insight on Josh, who today signed a 4-year contract with Charlton reported to be for a five-figure sum.

The 24-year old has 220 games under his belt and was in the Scottish L1 team two seasons ago, the year Dunfermline won promotion, and again in the Scottish Championship team of the year for this past season.

Mannion signed, Berry & Edwards to follow

The Addicks announced their first summer signing today. No surprises in that it was goalkeeper Will Mannion, who will join once his Cambridge United contract expires at the end of this month.

Mannion finished the season as Cambridge’s number one, but his career, which matches many goalies, has been stop, start.

Sounding as if there is some early transfer activity planned by the Addicks when the window opens on June 14th. This is exactly what Nathan Jones has hoped for.

Three players have been linked in the last day or two. Luke Berry, goalkeeper Will Mannion and Josh Edwards.
