Luton release Luke Berry and Dan Potts

I had been keeping an eye on when Luton Town‘s issue their released list, and it came out today.

It made sense in the law of putting two and two together to see if it threw up any obvious Nathan Jones’ previous connections.

Well, it does with both Luke Berry and Dan Potts being released. Potts was in back to back promotion winning sides under Nathan Jones and Mick Harford, and took over as captain in last season’s play-off final after Tom Lockyer collapsed.

Potts has made 216 appearances over nine seasons, but did not make one Premier League appearance. He has mostly played either at left back or on the left side of a back three.

Luton had a year’s option on Berry but have “agreed not to exercise it in order to allow the 31-year-old midfielder to explore opportunities to play regular football elsewhere.”

Berry has been at Kenilworth Road since 2017, and has scored in all four divisions. The midfielder was signed by Jones and became his talisman as they rose though the divisions. Jones has often referenced Berry when talking about his Charlton goals.

I’m not sure we need another left back, even though it is being reported by Rich Cawley that we have put in a bid for Dunfermline’s Josh Edwards.

However, Berry would be a big signing at our level, and at 31 would bring an assuring experience to our midfield.

It’s transfer rumour time folks.
