Mannion signed, Berry & Edwards to follow

The Addicks announced their first summer signing today. No surprises in that it was goalkeeper Will Mannion, who will join once his Cambridge United contract expires at the end of this month.

Mannion finished the season as Cambridge’s number one, but his career, which matches many goalies, has been stop, start.

Signed on potential one would assume, he is a good age (26) and matches the profile required by Nathan Jones of being big and commanding of his box.

He did have a good game when we played them at their place, but he lacks regular game time. Just 29 EFL appearances, a bit of non-league and Cypriot football on his appearance slate.

The thing that jumped out of the page the most in the Jones’ comments today was that if AMB or Isted are to stay they will pretty much be third choice next season. One would assume that Jones had already made them both aware of that as that would’ve been a tough read this morning for both lads.

Mannion I’d think would be second choice to a more experienced ‘keeper still to come in.

Also, I expect to always be calling him Wilf, so watch out for that.

In other transfer news, Rich Cawley is back from his holidays and has said on X that Charlton have agreed deals for both Luton midfielder Luke Berry and left-sided defender Josh Edwards from Dunfermline. The latter will involve a fee. Medical’s will be completed once they return from their own hols.p

Reportedly there has been some interest in AMB and Isted so I’d expect them to get transferred, both need to be playing/competing for a first team spot, AMB in particular before their careers atrophy.

It seems another keeper is on his way into the club and in particular an experienced one.

It looks like NJ is going to be ruthless, we need to be signing players who can play at a promotion standard.

If Josh Edwards is coming in and we are going to keep Thierry Small then Tayo Edun is almost certainly on his way out. NJ has said frequently that he wants a small squad and we don’t need three left backs.

Two for each position. Edwards is quite versatile though, but think you are right in that Edun will move on.

Yesm saw that he has hardly played but had a few games at the end of last season and by all accounts had a great game against us but GK’s and CH’s badly needed and leaders.

Hoping nothing like being gazumped for the 2 players agreeing to come to us and yes it is so difficult to keep all secret.
A good start and we wonder about CH’s and a leader badly required.
We await and see what develops but see who might be going out and that includes May or Leaburn but lets hope not!!!

I’m delighted that at last Scott has got his act together and no doubt Nathan has been instrumental in the choice of arrivals and departures.

We have to make bold moves to secure a promotion target next season and its important to thank all departing players who made a positive contribution to us staying up.

We will have a new desso pitch I’m told that will be able to cope with our fixtures including the ladies team playing home games at The Valley.I bet the groundstaff are delighted and shows the owners are making investment where its needed.
