Edwards and Godden

Rarely a game goes by when Josh Edwards is not in the wars. The likable Scottish ball of energy doesn’t have the word shirk in his dictionary.

Today Nathan Jones said that Edwards’ ankle damage is going to mean he “will probably be out a little bit longer than a few weeks.”

Which in Jones speak is a lot more than a few weeks. Ankle injuries can be tough depending on the grade of the sprain and whether it’s medial or lateral.

Edwards’ is inside the ankle, so medial, which will take longer. I suspect we may be looking at more like 8 weeks before we see the Scot again on the field.

I turned my ankle playing pickleball around 8 weeks ago, and it is still swollen and I’m only half of the finely tuned athlete that Edwards is….

Josh missed six weeks at the beginning of last season due to an ankle injury, and I remember after really impressing in the opening two games he took a while to get back into the groove, but ended up being undroppable, hence why Thierry Small ended up on the right side.

Recover well, Josh.

We also got an update on Matt Godden, and his recovery is taking far longer than was expected. Jones admitted that in hindsight the club should’ve gotten him into surgery after Wembley but decided on a holistic approach.

Godden’s knee still has swelling around it caused by a buildup of fluid so treatment continues.

Jones said today: “That is going to take some time to settle down and is ongoing. But he is in a better place now. We’ve started to push him again this week. Hopefully he won’t be too far away.”

Okay, the medicine journal is going back on the shelf, but I hope we see Josh and Matt back soon.

As well as the season is going, our inability to score goals will end up costing us.
If Godden is more crocked than has been admitted? We need to recruit a striker in January. NJ doesn’t seem to have much faith in Olaofe and Miles Leaburn is beginning to look like he doesn’t want to be here.
A loan or permanent, but we need someone.

Agree with Daggs as have always implied we can’t keep relying for defenders and midfield to score and trying to hang onto one nil lead. Also we have to be honest here, the last three games Sheffield Utd, Blackburn and Derby are currently all at the bottom of the table and have been struggling to beat anyone so have fortunately played them at the right time! Preston will be a completely different ball game as will many other teams who can score freely.
I think we should have kept Kanu, with Godden still out and Kelman having just one effort on goal in seven games and TC having none on target, as Kanu is also fast, does drive forward and have some efforts on target, which he is showing at Walsall, being currently their best player! Unfortunately similar to Olafe at present, he was never given a run in the team, by NJ, just normally left sitting on the bench or just bought on late in the game, watching Ahadme continue to do nothing.
The current two starting strikers Kelman & TC definately need a change around, with either Olafe or Leaburn starting with Kelman as it’s not working with two small front men. Then bring on as subs the other big man and TC or Apter, who seems to have currently been sidelined, since Bree’s arrival, which is understandable, but could have maybe come on for TC, as am sure he could have slotted in on the right, as he can use both feet?
Anyway lets hope we can get a result at Preston as looks like Sheffield Weds also won’t be a push over now, as their players are really fighting hard considering their current predicament.
