Curtis Fleming to be interim with Pearcey assisting
10 days, and 7 goals conceded after joining the club to assist Michael Appleton especially on the defensive side, Curtis Fleming has been put in interim charge of the first-team.
Fleming will be assisted by current Senior Professional Development Phase Lead Coach Jason Pearce.
Richard O’Donnell has also gone, who Appleton added to his team as first team coach in mid-September.
I suspect Andy Scott is writing his well rehearsed pitch to explain the current decision making debacle to supporters.
I’ll reiterate what I said after Appleton was appointed: “Appleton like Holden, Garner, Jacko and others beforehand will get the fan’s frontline angst, but remember the puppeteer.”

Scott, Methven and Rodwell have to gain the trust of the fans…I fear its been damaged beyond repair. VERY poor decision making, alienation from the fans, Appletons appointment and hiding behind him, and NOT delivering what was promised….I could list more.
It was a toxic atmosphere last night and have never heard any of our managers booed as he came out before ko.
Dobbo stood and clapped the fans at the end and I’m sure he’s off to Hungary.
All very depressing and I’m very concerned we have a management team who lack vision and ability…
A relegation battle now starts and I look at the February fixtures in absolute horror !!!!
I have faith in Pearcy and know he’s respected within the playing squad and hopefully with Fleming can steady a tossing and rolling boat with no rudder,captain or lifeboats !!!
It does make you wonder about Scott, Rodwell & Methens real intentions behind Fleming’s initial appointment, and whether Appleton actually wanted him in the first place? It really does sum up the mess that our club is in…

Well lets see what happens now who next will those three muppets employ as manager, or should I say 1st team coach!
The owners have actually put some money in for new players, which at the face of it appears, apart from Alfie, are really no better than what we had, with our two other best players flying the nest, so they should take a good hard look at the three amigos and replace them with a good management team, before they go let the amigos go and appoint another complete waste of space 1st Team coach, who has currently been out of work for a year or more and already has a poor record!
We need to tie Dobbo down before he decides Hungary is a better option.
If you build the team around him I’m sure we’ll see better times….he is worth going the extra mile to secure his signature.
Too late Dobbo has already agreed pre terms at the end of his contract! They have offered a fee if we sell him now to them, which obviously will be a pitence!
We still have time…until end of transfer window but I think he’s off.

Duff had great success at Cheltenham and did well with Barnsley.
When his teams came to the Valley they were very well drilled and organised which is why I want him.
Flopped at Swansea but even Fergie got sacked once.

Rowett is a former Charlton captain, did well at Birmingham until unfairly sacked and then did a good job with the Scottish club.
Doesn’t play “exciting” football but I’ll take winning over any fancy style of losing.
Won a promotion and took his last side to their highest finish in years. Currently between jobs. Knows Curbs and Brownie so could get their views, not just Scott and Rodwell’s. Supposedly wanted to move back up north but not sure how true that is.

Nathan Jones was a success as our U21 coach and did very well for Luton but had bad spells at Stoke and Southampton. A high risk option and has had made strange comments in the media.

Nigel Pearson would be a “safe pair of hands”. Very experienced with some successes but also failures, most recently at Bristol City where Jason Euell was his coach. Also worked with Curtis Fleming. Had a recent illness so probably not one for now.

Chris Powell, club legend and was said to have agreed to come in to help Holden but then turned down an interim role when Dean was sacked. Now a number two at Sheffield Wednesday but might fancy coming back to London.

Jason Pearce was the last interim and might be again, maybe to the end of the season. Definitely wants to be a manager but doesn’t seem in a rush having seen others crash and burn having taken jobs too early.

Curtis Fleming is a very experienced coach but has no management experience outside a year in India but would be in pole position for caretaker being a Scott, rather than Appleton, appointment.

John Eustace took over from Lee Bowyer at Birmingham and did well with them, keeping them up and getting them to the fringes of the play-offs, albeit very early in the season. Reputation has probably been boosted by being unfairly sacked so the owners could have a “big name” manager in Wayne Rooney. Has done his time as assistant as QPR among others so maybe not be adverse to working in the capital.

Lee Bowyer proved he could build a promotion side at Charlton and he was very good at changing things during games when required. Seen as a motivator but also as a harsh, critical “old school” type manager that perhaps doesn’t go down well with a new generation of players.

Mark Bonner did fairly well at Cambridge on a tight budget, young coach, out of work. Similar track record to Duff at Cheltenham in league 1. Got a tune out of McGrandles and Jones. (shamelessly stolen from Brazilance)

Never heard of him but has done a very good job with Northampton
Knowing Scott it will be someone completely different.
He’s a good manager and fully respected by his players, owners and fans…could do worse.
Hmm, seems a bit fishy to me…..Fleming brought in a week before Appleton is sacked…..Is it Scott & Co. covering their backs knowing full well Appleton’s days were numbered, and therefore would already have an interim manager in house. Strange that it is Pearcey assisting Fleming and not vice-versa, as Jason has done it before. Unless they are going to give Fleming the rest of the season.
Have to agree that Fleming was brought in by SMT in advance of the sacking….how can we have any respect or trust our club under SMT ?
I can honestly say I had no idea who Richard O’Donnell is or was.
That’s a measure of how damaged my relationship to Charlton has become.
I started supporting them in 1968 …………………….
