Mile high

I woke up this morning in Denver, Colorado.. as you do.

Flew here yesterday afternoon via New York, and arrived at the hotel at 2am. It was quite the hike. Snow lightly fell as we checked in and the photo is from my hotel room window just now.

I am staying at the Denver Tech Center, a glorified business village about 12 miles south of the city itself where the steps of the Colorado State Capitol Building are exactly 5,280 feet above sea level – one mile high.

Denver is also known for it’s breweries, so a pint with breakfast shortly sounds perfectly fine. Hey, it is 5pm somewhere.

I might stick to one though as I am seeing a client tonight and working in the morning before being driven two hours up the mountain to Beaver Creek, for what my daughter whimsically calls a ‘work vacation.’

I have been fortunate enough to be invited to this, ahem, ‘executive advisory board meeting’ for many years at the Ritz Carlton resort near Beaver Creek and about 20 minutes further west of Vail. This is the first time post pandemic it has been held, and I’ll be honest I am quite looking forward to it.

I first came to Beaver Creek with my snow-bunny-other-half in 2007, and wrote about it here, and although my skiing days are over due to ACL reconstruction and general apprehension (I was never very good), it is one of my happy places.

Sounds good CA and you gotta take the highs with the lows – I’ll be in Leeds and Sheffield this week I’m not sensing you’re jealousy.

I had a days skiing in Beaver Creek about 15 / 16 years ago – got the bus over from Vail for $5. Lovely enjoyable upmarket place but some of the runs and lifts were shut as they were reserved for the very wealthy or A Listers (God Bless America) and no one was using them for a week or two so weren’t even pisted. Apparently Cameron Diaz was there a few weeks before we arrived…lol.

    • Sounds about right NA4Y. Their tagline ‘not exactly roughing it’ says it all. I’ll keep an eye for Cameron 👀
