Shrewsbury Town 1 Charlton Athletic 0

The first defeat under Jacko to an injury time goal that should have never have stood.

It was one of those days. The weather sucked, it was a terrible game, and 1,000 Addicks had to cross hell and high water to get their due to train cancellations. We did not play well, but did not deserve to lose, but lose we did, and now we have to see how Jacko responds.

Morecambe 2 Charlton Athletic 2

Jacko has set such a high bar that I’m disappointed with that.

The performance was laboured and tired underscored by the possession stats – we had 68% – yet we never showed any real cutting edge especially in the second half, and thus had to make do with a point up on the Lancaster coast.

Well that sent a shot across the bows for those in the table looking down on us.

What a performance. What an atmosphere. What a day. I have long since stopped pinning my hopes on a Charlton game headlining a trip home. I try to compartmentalize the 90 minutes as part of a whole day out with family and mates. Wake up on a Sunday morning a bit worse for wear, and consign the football to lower down the memories of a fine day out, but bloody hell yesterday’s ‘hour and half in the middle’ had bloody everything.

New contract announcement

Not Jacko yet although Thomas Sandgaard has joined yours truly in the UK this week, so watch this space, but today it was Corey Blackett-Taylor who signed a new contract.

The 24-year old was initially signed until January but has had his contract extended until the summer of 2023.

The night’s are drawing in

I got an unexpected sunny welcome landing at Heathrow Airport this morning. Fast forward ten hours and I’m sat in my parents conservatory looking out at the South Downs which are quickly becoming shrouded in November darkness.

Burton Albion 0 Charlton Athletic 1

A crazy first half which saw both sides reduced to ten men, but we got our goal and clung onto it like a piece of treasure.

The first half resembled a bundle in the playground as old adversary Trevor Kettle sent off Jayden Stockley and ex-Addick Deji Oshilaja and handed out yellow cards like confetti, including one to Harry Arter who didn’t even get his tracksuit off.

Cup game on TV

Bit of a shame really as I’d imagine a night in either Newcastle or Manchester would have appealed to many Addicks, but the game has been chosen for TV and at the worst time if you were planning on going. Mind you one could now make a weekend of it!

Charlton Athletic 4 Havant & Waterlooville 0

Our first FA Cup win for three years, it wasn’t smooth running, but we did the basics and finally found a way past a tidy and organized H&W back line.

The first half sounded very unexciting with just 3,865 in the stadium including an noisy 874 from Hampshire. It was 0-0 at the break, and although Henderson had to save from a corner, other than a couple of dead ball situations once we got the opening goal is one way coasting.

Getting my mojo back

When Conor Washington’s shot hit the back of the net on Tuesday night, I was up punching the air, office chair flying across the room, didn’t care who saw. I was back.

Deji Elerewe signs pro contract

This was a nagging concern wasn’t it but today young defender Deji Elerewe signed a professional contract with the club until 2024.

The 18-year has been involved with the first team since pre-season and has impressed those that have watched him. He joined our academy at 13.

Charlton Athletic 1 Rotherham United 1

The difference from just two weeks ago is astonishing.

Jacko has overseen three games, each very different, but the level of performance and commitment has been exceptional. There were so many points in tonight’s game where under Adkins we would have crumbled or given up the ghost, yet this team under the guidance of Jacko is doing exactly what it says on the Charlton tin.
