Huddersfield Town 0 Charlton Athletic 1
Third time lucky at the John Smith’s Stadium today, which reminds me that I have no problem with grounds being sponsored, as long as it doesn’t re-write history, but it just becomes plain silly when the name keeps getting changed, so let’s start again..
Third time lucky at the Alfred McAlpine Stadium today to propel the Addicks into a nose-bleed inducing 5th Round draw, the first time since 2006 when we made the Quarter Finals – Operation Riverside, remember that?
Today was another shot in the arm for morale, and just reward for the 400 glutton-for-punishments that travelled up for the 3rd meeting at the McAlpine this season. Winning breeds confidence and Roland’s investment quickly pays another dividend, £90,000 after £67,500 on Tuesday.
Scanning reports, it sounded as if we rode our luck at times, but it was another game we grew into with the back four and especially Alnwick strong and organised. Astrid Ajdarevic made a good impression and we finished the game with five academy players on the field after debutant Harry Lennon replaced an injured Ceddy Evina, who by all accounts was having a bit of a ‘Ceddy.’
Those there said Lennon did well, and I wonder if the naturally left-footed player will keep his place on Tuesday? Yann was with the squad, but was rested, and well done to Simon Church, who finished a typically marauding run and excellent pass from Lawrie Wilson to get the winner.
Churchy has had a bit of stick recently, but today his non-stop effort paid off, and I for one are well pleased for him.
We were travelling for most of the game, but were sat in a little Argentinian cafe in Coral Gables when the final score came through. Salud!
A cup run, who would have thought it?
