Welling friendly changed. Again

Apparently according to the Welling United website. Back to it’s original date, which means one of three things:

1) Lee Bowyer now needs less time to get his players ready,
2) Roland Duchatelet has now agreed to pay for a pre-season tour camping in Swanage, or
3) The management of the club don’t know their arse from their elbow.

Lee Bowyer statement

“The last two months have been some of the most enjoyable of my career in football and I’d like to thank everyone associated with Charlton Athletic for that.” (more)

Some may dissect Bowyer’s words for what lies underneath, but for me he never sat in front of the press or us and sounded contrived or pre-meditated, he just came across as calm and considerate and increasingly like a man who was enjoying what he was doing. I’ve made my vote, and would love him to carry on under new owners for no other reason that he will add continuity, knows the club and vitally has earned much goodwill amongst the fan base for doing something that no one has accomplished since Chris Powell was kicked out by Duchatelet, and that is bringing pride and togetherness back across the team and supporters.

Reeves signs

At last. More will he wont he’s than a vegetarian sat in front of bacon sandwich.

Ben Reeves, a long time target of Karl Robinson, signed a 2-year contract this afternoon. Reeves is an attacking midfielder with a good eye for goal and played 86 league games in 4-years for MK Dons scoring 24 goals. The Dorset born 25-year old has 2 Northern Ireland caps.

Bristol City 1 Charlton Athletic 1

Meh. A last gasp undeserved equaliser just glosses over another poor performance where we were fortunate that City missed a hatful of chances and also missed a penalty.

I’m pleased for Harry Lennon and I heard the skipper made another rallying cry at the end asking for turning points. We’ll see what happens on Monday night.

Morrison leaves for Birmingham

Not surprised at all with Michael Morrison’s departure. After 146 starts in three seasons in the heart of our defence , under Bob Peeters he has made just the one, and only that due to Ben Haim’s religious belief’s.

The vice captain joins Gary Rowett’s Birmingham City on loan until the end of the year, with a 28-day call back.

I like many Addicks have always been a huge admirer of Morrison, since the very first day he pulled on a Charlton jersey. The 26-year old only signed a new 2-year contract in the summer a month after Peeters joined. I suspect like many this was to both appease fans and a back-up in case the Belgian wasn’t able to get the ball-playing defenders in that he wanted.

Huddersfield Town 0 Charlton Athletic 1

Third time lucky at the John Smith’s Stadium today, which reminds me that I have no problem with grounds being sponsored, as long as it doesn’t re-write history, but it just becomes plain silly when the name keeps getting changed, so let’s start again..

Third time lucky at the Alfred McAlpine Stadium today to propel the Addicks into a nose-bleed inducing 5th Round draw, the first time since 2006 when we made the Quarter Finals – Operation Riverside, remember that?
