Pay to listen interview
Anyone else think that the very first interview with Roland Duchâtelet and Katrien Meire only available on CAFC Player is a little bit out of order? It’s not very inclusive is it? I don’t know how many fans pay the annual fee of £43 a year, but surely the wider audience want to listen to Roland and Katrien’s plans. It’s quite important isn’t it?
It’s not been widely advertised either. Hopefully those that signed up today get their moneys worth, because I personally think it’s not value for money at the best of times, and I’ve been buying it for years!
Richard Murray joins Duchatelet and Meire as well on camera. Kind of funny that when Richard was the majority owner he would happily show up at fan gatherings for the price of a pint, then we had the recluse Kevin Cash and his publicity shy stooges Tony Jimenez and Michael Slater and now the new owners are charging us to listen to them.
Anyway I’m keeping my powder dry and I’m looking forward to hearing what they have to say. I would also take it as a positive that Duchâtelet was at The Valley today.
Two words that we will be listening out for are ‘transfer window’. The SLP yesterday mentioned that Simeon Jackson was a Charlton target, which was a refreshing change from one of Standard Liege’s youth players. One of Powell’s long time targets is Jackson, now playing for Eintracht Braunschweig in the Bundesliga.
At Oxford last night was Celtic manager Neil Lennon, presumably casting his eye over Yann Kermorgant. That’s a long drive on a Tuesday night, which is worrying.
Finally Michael Smith is expected to sign on a permanent basis for Swindon Town tomorrow. The fee is £100,000, which represents a tidy profit, and with various add-ons another £100,000 could be due to the Addicks. A sell-on fee was also added.
It’s a shame to see Smith leave, but he was never able to break into the first team, despite the paucity of striking options for Powell. Good for Smith that he had a lot of options – 10 clubs had enquired about him apparently – and I wish him all the very best.

CA – my guess is they may choose to pre-release stuff on pay-per-view and then put it up on the OS some time later. Crazy to communicate only with those prepared to subscribe to a second-rate commentary service. Personally, unless they are going to have interesting things to tell us, I am quite happy getting the low-down second-hand. I suppose it’s still a step-up from the Mutes.
Not sure why but I and at least one other can’t find it on player.
