As we were

Our last two games, no hopes, and no points, so as we were then.

Positives to move on with? We didn’t lose to Millwall in injury time, and more seriously we played very well against Brentford. The absolute form team in this division who had been brushing teams aside pre and post lockdown.

Pass the parcel

Roll up, roll up. Have I got a deal for you. A nice little number, decent bodywork if you ignore the lumps taken out of it, just a few uncareful owners. Okay more than a few. Take it for a ride…. everyone else has!

Another owner of our club tonight. Well apparently. Who the f knows?

It’s the hope that kills you

Struggled today after last night’s disappointment. Hopefully the players are thinking more positively but Sunday is going to need a top Charlton performance, one not just of steely determination and passion, but from somewhere we have to get goals. Pearce’s backside and an Amos big goal kick have provided our only goals in the last 4 games.

On the flip side, it was only a perfect strike from Nolan that broke our defensive stronghold, and Amos again looked confident in goal. We all know what it takes, and I am sure 1,500 noisy Addicks will provide tremendous backing on Sunday afternoon in Shropshire.

Duchatelet stalls sale

Sky Sports ran a story yesterday and I had heard it myself from a very reliable source that the vindictive old bastard had stalled takeover talks to wait and see how we fair in the play-offs. It is what we have come to expect from the egotistical lunatic.

This of course could end two ways, well four. We get promoted and he pushes the price up. We get promoted and he convinces himself that he is a football club owning genius and decides to carry on with his project.

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie

After what has seen like a length of a James Cook expedition the Aussies are apparently finally coming. We have seen plenty of false dawns but word is that next week we may eventually get rid of the Belgian poison and have new owners.

According to the sage Richard Murray there were two bids accepted. One was obviously the Aussies, and the other may have been an Arab consortium, or was it English or was it the Scots, and someone said today there was some American interest. Who the hell knows, except that we finally rid ourselves of Roland Duchatelet.

Encouraging

Unsubstantiated stories continue to flutter around SE7 of Roland Duchatelet coming to terms with failure for apparently the first time in his life. See, he’s human after all huh?

Following on from the Belgian acknowledging that there are suitors out there with a price of £38m quoted to former defender Paul Elliott. Peter Varney and his backers are known to still be interested in acquiring the club and there is also an American based interest as well.

It has been mentioned before but it now appears apparent that work had been halted at Sparrows Lane. A Category One youth academy is pretty much impossible to acquire in League One and would also be a huge hit to the bottom line. Maybe another scenario that Duchatelet didn’t envision when he was clearly content to accept relegation.

Charlton Athletic 0 Derby County 1

The life support machine will finally be switched off in Bolton on Tuesday night unless we win and other results go our way.

Our 22nd defeat of the season and Derby’s goal coming from a corner (what else?) just after we had a goal disallowed, which was dubious.

Quiet time

Very quiet on the Addicks front at the moment, with I would assume players and coaching staff on their holidays recharging the batteries. Pre-season training begins at the end of June, with only one friendly currently confirmed, and that will be the traditional curtain opener at Welling on Saturday 11th, July. In a change to the norm, there is set to be two home friendlies this summer.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant has been called up to the England U18 squad for their upcoming tour of Russia. Karlan dropped out of the first team scene under Luzon after being thrown into the deep end by his predecessor, however the 17-year old continued to prosper in the U21 development team and scored in every round of the Kent Senior Cup including the trophy winner.

Paul Elliott story makes a comeback

3 weeks after it was denied, it now does appear that the club are set to offer Paul Elliott the role of Charlton chairman. A lot of people scoffed at the original Daily Mirror story, but to me it was always strange that The Mirror, had bothered themselves with the story in the first place, which one would assume was well sourced.

Both Sky and The Mirror are reporting it today that Elliott will be appointed club chairman once the “financial terms are concluded.” An interesting 4 words there. Michael Slater’s role in club affairs has definitely reduced since Kevin Cash allegedly withdrew his investment. Expect Slater now to disappear from view.

Paul Elliott to rejoin?

An interesting scoop if true by the Daily Mirror announcing that Paul Elliott is set to return to The Valley as it’s next chairman with Michael Slater taking a “more hands off role.”

Michael Slater I would have said will have no role soon enough at The Valley once Tony Jimenez finds new investment to replace that of Kevin Cash’s. Slater will be free then to be Cash’s front man someone else, get proper value out of his Manchester City season-ticket and pursue his complaint against Spanish police.
