Charlton Athletic 1 Chelsea 5

That was never a 5-1 game. I thought the boys did well tonight, showed good organization, discipline and courage. They even gave us a goal to cheer.

Yet, the second and third goals were poor to concede and the timing a killer.

Cup half full

The Charlton youth team beat Watford tonight to progress to the last 16 of this season’s FA Youth Cup.

If that doesn’t get us warmed up for Saturday’s FA Cup night then not much will. Our academy continues to be a source of pride.

Cup games

A couple of bits of Addicks’ stuff that passed me by this weekend.

Firstly, what a tremendous win for our U18’s at Liverpool in the FA Youth Cup, secondly I’ve just seen that our Chelsea FA Cup game will be played at 8pm on a Saturday night.

Chelsea at home

Wow, a proper draw. Chelsea at home in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. I believe they also call themselves the best team in the World!

An exciting draw, the first for many years. The game will played over the weekend of January 10/11th, and I guess we could be a TV pick.

David Datro Fofana

Lots of confusion tonight surrounding Chelsea striker David Datro Fofana, but it does look as if the loan move to Charlton has fallen through as the EFL never received the transfer ‘deal sheet’ in time.

This move really fell under the radar, and Charlton nor the club’s most-in-the-know journo, Rich Cawley have even commented on the 22-year old’s potential late move.

VAR

I haven’t seen a lot of gripes about our referee on Saturday. I had a moan, but maybe we are just immune now to how bad they are in this division.

He wasn’t the reason we didn’t win, but I have never seen a referee eat up so much time themselves. He was so persnickety over every decision he made whether it a corner, free-kick or throw.

A derelict Valley

Tough times for us Addicks, and no sugarcoating where we find ourselves, possibly heading for our lowest league finish since 1926.

Nonetheless it does do us good once in a while to think back to when the position of club was even more daunting.

New loan signing

Not a young Spurs loanee, but another from the Chelsea factory line.

The Amsterdam born speedy left wing back Juan Castillo has signed on loan until the end of the season. Castillo did play a few games on loan at Birmingham earlier in the season. His season-long loan was cut short. Last season he played on loan in the Eredivisie for ADO Den Haag.

Two more added, three to go

Double figures now for new players. Yesterday Bowyer and Gallen added centre half Ryan Innis on a permanent deal from Crystal Palace and quickly on the back of that 18-year old Chelsea prospect Ian Maasten joined on loan.

Blue is the colour

Chelsea’s thrilling penalty shoot-out win yesterday was a deserving epilogue to a nail biting end to the season.

As I often do in these situations I began watching as a neutral but couldn’t help be drawn to the Blues as my patriotic juices took me over. I also thought of a good mate of mine, a massive long-time Chelsea fan, who has suffered a dreadful year with ill-health.

He pretty much emptied his bank account to get to Munich and he would have savoured every minute of yesterday’s triumph.
