New loan signing

Not a young Spurs loanee, but another from the Chelsea factory line.

The Amsterdam born speedy left wing back Juan Castillo has signed on loan until the end of the season. Castillo did play a few games on loan at Birmingham earlier in the season. His season-long loan was cut short. Last season he played on loan in the Eredivisie for ADO Den Haag.

Although I am a big fan of Purrington, this does give Jacko the option of a more attack-minded full back although looking at his stats, Castillo doesn’t ever have seen to be anywhere near the opposition penalty box, whereas Ben has scored 9 goals for us.

We all wax lyrical about the Gallaghers, Bieliks and Cullen’s but we have had as many turnips in the past few years as well. I will hold my judgement until I watch the lad before I get carried away.

The 22-year is out of his Chelsea contract in the summer, which possibly could mean this loan is more of a trial to see if it is worth us pursuing him longer.

If this is the strategy, and I made that bit up about a trial, then with this season on life-support planning ahead for next season and taking a close eye at loan players for more than just a borrowing exercise is a good thing.

It seems he can play left wing-back or fit into that role, but it does leave us with another left-sided player to compete with Pape Soare, Ben Purrington, Charlie Kirk and Corey Blackett-Taylor. Soare is probably going to be the big loser here and it adds some fuel to the rumours that Kirk may move on, but that seems to be dependant on Blackpool trading Josh Bowler to Forest.

It also takes us back to four loanees which is the maximum we can play/have in the match day squad. So it may quash getting another loanee in – unless one or more of Leko, Lee or Famewo either returns to their parent club or signs full time for us or I suppose one of those simply sits in the stands.

There have been rumours that Elliot Lee would become a full-time Addick and we do have an option to sign Famewo at the end of the season when his Norwich contract expires, that could be dragged forward I suppose.

    • You have to think Soare is history now. I know he had to come a long way back from where he was, but he has been awful.

I believe we’re allowed 5 loanees in a match day squad.

  2. Excuse me the Cat must be the 3rd highest GS this season and 4 or 5 goals and when I have just read SG’s comments about at RW back we are stronger what with Leko and that natural winger who we signed last year but a total waste of space too.
Also, the cynic in me this matter is Browne who has not even made ONE appearance on the bench for Boro and recovering from an ACL but hope he is fit and bangs in the goals and assists.
CAFC another injury-prone player and their words “we have to manage and look after them, as we do not want them to be out longer”!!!
So we have so many Innis, JFC, Stockley and Washington and no doubt others

All at CAFC stop the incessant talk the talk but do the talking on the pitch, please.
Also there is still a fear of a relegation hanging over us and the lowest position in our history
Onwards and upwards it simply has to be.
