Chelsea at home

Wow, a proper draw. Chelsea at home in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup. I believe they also call themselves the best team in the World!

An exciting draw, the first for many years. The game will played over the weekend of January 10/11th, and I guess we could be a TV pick.

The last time we played Chelsea was in February 2007. It was at The Valley and Coventry boss Frank Lampard scored the winner.

It’s hard to imagine but we played them every season for the 9 years before that. Included in that time was when Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea did not lose to us, but did really on penalties at Stamford Bridge in the League Cup in October 2005.

In 1995 we played them in the FA Cup 3rd Round also at Stamford Bridge and lost 3-0.

Some news to raise a smile on Addicks’ faces after a tough weekend.

A real challenge awaits but we all know that anything is possible on the day…it will be very interesting to see how styles of play differ and how we adapt to their style of play.
One thing is for sure Charlton fans will get 100% the team and you never never know !!!!

The results over the last few games tell me with a small, injury ravaged squad, that this could prove to be a long season.

I don’t mind this tie, win or lose it’ll be good for the bank balance, and realistically we are not favourites. Lose and we can focus on league survival, win and we get the shot of adrenalin that we need. Could it be televised?

I think it has a good chance of being on the box.

My outstanding Charlton/Chelsea memory goes back to Easter Monday 1977, when Chelsea came to the Valley. After the Addicks 3rd goal (it finished 4:0 and Flanagan scored a hat trick)Chelsea fans started a bonfire. Ah, the good old days – Charlton thrash Chelsea, but it’s accompanied by a dose of good old soccer violence! Despite the loss, Chelsea were promoted to the First Division. Life just isn’t fair, especially if you’re a Charlton fan. FA Cup karma would be good. COYR

That 1995 match, wasn’t it 3-1 with David Whyte Whyte Whyte scoring our goal?

The other game that is an all time favourite is the 4-2 Boxing Day game. Parker was brilliant that day. 2003.
