Rak-Sakyi deal off

I was trying to keep my own powder dry on this. The signing of ex-loanee and wide right man Jes Rak-Sakyi looked as if it was going to be a done deal.

The Palace player in the final year of his contract was at Sparrows Lane this week ready to sign, but Charlton have pulled out of deal.

Some people are saying medical issues, which seems odd as he has never had any real previous injury problems, and this is a club that signed Reece Burke!!

Others are pointing at Rak-Sakyi’s agent. Rich Cawley’s words were that the deal has been called off “due to complications. The key stumbling block was in relation to his agent representation. That is believed to be an ongoing dispute.”

Pretty gutting, like many thousands of other Addicks I was excited about the prospect of seeing the 23-year old back and in this Charlton team.

A deal of circa £4 million was apparently agreed.

After last night’s injury nightmare(s), we’ll have to see which what the club now go.

I thought it was the two injuries yesterday which caused this?

Apparently it was off before last night’s game.

First thing that we have to do is recall Gough and look to recruit centre backs on loan. Under financial rules, we probably cannot do that and add Rak-Sakyi to the wage bill.

I knew something like this would happen…..two centre defence players out in one night, playing in a Mickey Mouse cup game that we were never going to win….. NJ should have fielded a complete team of under 21’s…..although I suppose there are EFL rules against that happening.
As for the Rak-Sakyi situation, apparently we pulled out before the game yesterday evening……shame, I was looking forward to seeing him in a Charlton shirt again.

Our club has had a tremendous transfer window which includes the contract extension of our Captain and TC . McNamara has far exceeded expectations, we have won our first two league games, one of which was West Ham away!!

I always thought the Spurs game was bad timing but was lucky enough to be invited corporate and went in the hope of a spirited display, a 1-0 loss, and no injuries. Firstly, 10 out 10 for the stadium. However, when I saw the team sheet I had difficulty seeing the sense of even playing the game, I also lost a little bit of pride that I was feeling on my way to the ground (it was feeling like old Charlton). I sense I wasn’t alone, and the packed away end didn’t have its usual bounce. What transpired was a spirited display, but unsurprisingly, it fell well short. You can’t be surprised, but it didn’t put us in the best light. That said, I can understand the reasoning from Jones, and this is even further supported with what happened to big Billy and Colin Sichenje.

The signing of JRS would have been the icing on the cake for the transfer window, and I would be intrigued to hear the real reason. If there are issues, we are right to pull the plug.

Today hurts , more than it should, but this too shall pass…

The game against Spurs shouldn’t define us; the transfer window to date, contract extensions, fight back against Derby and the magnificent display from the players at the London stadium should!

    We go again!

We need to unload Burke, just picking up the pay check and never fit to play, my Luton mates say he is made of glass. Apter and Knibs both look out of their depth and need to be moved on. Mwamba one glimmer of hope. Full on now for another CB on loan. I guess Bell moves into the centre and Mesik on the left.

I don’t get the negative hype about losing last night. It was cup game against a financial strong PL club at a very good stadium. Why risk prime players in such a game. It is a nothing cup, and no point getting all sentimental about pride etc.. the league is the focus and getting points on the board. I guess some fans just like to moan. What it did show, that some of those players are just not at the right level and need to be moved on. But they all needed game time so that was crucial. The
JRS deal is disappointing but I believe there will be more twists and turns on that. I totally agree that Burke should’ve been released in the summer and a suitable replacement found. 3 pts on Saturday please and we can all move on. Injuries are part of the season, and the squad depth will determine whether we are going to be competitive in this league. The squad needs trimming and strengthening based on what we saw last night. Defensive positions are a priority now, and a right sided player. Personally I would offload asinwee, Doherty and Kanu, assuming that offers have been made for them. It will be interesting to see what happens now, but at least we have the opportunity to change it after the window closes.
