Derby County 1 Charlton Athletic 1
I think we have to be pleased with a point tonight and it was a fair result.
Derby have had an underwhelming start to the season and were under a lot of pressure to win. The only shame is that after quelling early 2nd half pressure we couldn’t build enough possession to bring back the 1st half home boos.
The players looked tired, they did put a lot of energy into Saturday, but although I understood the early subs, they blunted us in three key positions.
Kelman had his best game, Carey looked like he could chase all night and Bree was again excellent. It wasn’t that any of the game changers didn’t play well, but tonight as a collective they didn’t change the game for the better.
Everyone did their bit though and it was another solid performance that continues to endorse belief.
Overall it was a scrappy affair. We looked the more likely in the first half, but Derby dominated for large periods of the second.
Kaminski made a couple of vital saves, one particularly good, but just as you start to think that we are impenetrable, it was a shame to concede from a second phase of a corner.
After that it was good to see us go for the win and not allow Derby to maximise the stadium’s new positivity. Knibbs had a shot wide after a corner and Docherty had a goal bound shot blocked by his teammate, Olaofe.
But, how about that goal. First of all, what a superb bit of skill from Kelman to control a high ball dropping from the sky. He played in TC who roamed into the box, laid the ball to Carey, who played it to Docherty. The skipper masterfully sent a controlled pass in between two defenders to Bree, who volleyed home brilliantly.
Bree has made quite the impression.
As did the travelling Addicks who were making all the noise in the away end. I hope they all got home safely. A decent point on the road.
🎙️“Any point on the road in the Championship is a good point. I’m a little bit disappointed we didn’t go on to win it after the lateness of their goal, especially as we had chances ourselves late on, but overall I think it’s probably a fair result.” – Nathan Jones

A good point on the road and along with most, I’d have taken it before kick off.
Very unusual for N Jones to use the subs with over a half hour remaining. It disrupted us and all three were the wrong subs (assuming none were injured)
Still T.Campbell starts every game, contributes virtually nothing but plays the full game, mystery.
Olaofe seems to offer more than Leaburn when change is needed.
Hopefully, come January, we’ll be able to negotiate a permanent move for Bree. He has been something of a revelation.
So, eight games in, we’re in the top six. Not too many would have predicted that. It’s a good start.
Back home last night in time to watch the game on Sky….that was a well deserved points although I was hoping we could hold on to the Bree wonder-goal.
I felt we were on the front-foot for most of the game and really had Derby in our grasp, but alas they managed to get the equaliser.
I’m looking at the table and we can be very encouraged with our position…a vast improvement from past seasons and credit to Jones and the squad.
It’s a very good start overall, and in this division, I would take a point on the road in any away game. There were once again some first class individual performances, but still, as a team, we have the problem of strikers not hitting the mark. I’m keeping fingers crossed, that if Kelman especially, gets off the mark, the chances and goals will come.
I didn’t think we did enough in the second half to force a win or hold on. We needed a second goal, instead we relied too much on deep defence to keep Derby out and in the process we conceded too much possession and pressure, inevitably they got a goal.
Still a point on the road is not to be sneezed at.
And the subs didn’t really help us – we perhaps needed to refresh the defence and midfield, instead we made three attacking substitutions which left us a bit disjoined.
4 games unbeaten, this is a great start to life back in the Champ. I wonder if we start with CK alongside Leaburn or Olafe in place of TC and bring TC on later when there are some tired legs.
I agree 100% i do rate TC very highly as I have said before maybe start with Leyburn ana kerman and bring TC on in about 70th min cause he is ad strong as an ox 🐂 most cafc players looked absolutely shattered by then.Bree was phenomenal hopefully we ll sign him on a permanent deal soon. On to the next game coyr
