Jimmy Seed Stand

The new season ticket applications are out for next season, which rewards rightly those that already have one.

Prices have been frozen at least until the second stage, and tickets are cheapest when bought before the final game of the season.

Other positives are free season ticket for U12s (I am sure that used to be U11’s) in the Family Stand with a full-paying adult, discounted tickets available in 16-20 section for those falling within that age category and the continuation of Valley Express, huge for those that rely on it.

Fans who aren’t currently season-ticket holders or half season-ticket holders will have to pay £345 for the season in the Lower Covered End or up to £650 to sit in the middle of the AC or West Stand’s.

Also, within the text of the announcement the marketing team must have eaten a thesaurus and started rambling on about becoming the “UK’s most cohesive, sustainable community-driven club competing at an elite level.”

My thesaurus smelt BS, and translated that into ‘we want to save some money.’

“To improve The Valley’s atmosphere and matchday experience” the club are considering, admittedly not without fan consultation, closing the Jimmy Seed Stand and hosting away fans in the top tier of the West Stand at the southern end of the ground.

First thoughts were that it makes sense when Burton bring 150 fans on a wintery Tuesday night and that part of the stadium has the same arrival, departure and segregation functions as present.

Yet, this obviously doesn’t take into account any promotion, and I know none of us want to tempt fate, but future planning and even ambition looks to have been overlooked here, and not the actions of a forward thinking, progressive ownership.

Swansea and Millwall have the lowest away followings in The Championship, but they are still close to 1,000 and naturally we’d be Millwall’s biggest away day.

Then there is the consideration of having an empty stand behind one goal. The perception of that is poor and shows up as a little tin-pot if I’m honest.

I have been watching Charlton since long before anyone in the club’s marketing team, and I don’t remember it ever being a sole home end. It was mixed before segregation was enforced in the 70’s but other than games like Doncaster and on a few other occasions when it was split, I think reclaiming the Jimmy Seed Stand is erroneous.

We’ll have to wait and see how this develops, but it has sparked a lot of conversation.

it was split for sure. I recall watching PL and championship games from the Jimmy seed stand. Then we gave it to away fans, not sure why… perhaps the reducing the costs of segregation?? But not totally sure.
It was always felt the Jimmy Seed seemed to give the away fans better acoustics.

It definitely has better acoustics. A big away turnout can make a lot of noise.

there has been many a time I’ve wanted the roof removed to shut up noisy away fans. I’d be delighted if they got moved to the upper west in a corner but not close that end! Ridiculous.
