That was the attendance last time we played Wrexham at The Valley. 60 away fans if I counted correctly!
February 1982, and I think it fair to say that the 2nd Division game in the middle of winter was not an attractive proposition.
Hollywood’s best in those days such as Sylvester Stallone and Goldie Hawn didn’t pay it a lot of attention.
It does amuse me that the clamour for tickets for Saturday’s game has been the biggest for many a season. Wrexham at home.
In all fairness Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have done an incredible job in building the exaltation surrounding the club. Very clever gentlemen.
Plus, also to their credit they have brought success and momentum, which has been well funded, but does take more than just money.
Charlton have ridden the gold dusted gravy train and have marketed the heck out of this Saturday’s game, and with the away end not sold out, home areas are quickly reaching that point.
I for one am always happy to see The Valley full, or near capacity. Those swathes of empty blocks we have sadly become used to are depressing.
Wrexham have continued their form under Phil Parkinson, and once again I hope Nathan Jones’ team can deliver against the league’s best.
Other than Parky we will also see back at The Valley George Dobson, who I trust will get a warm reception, as well as Elliot Lee and Eoghan O’Connell, who may not.
There is nothing like a packed roaring Valley. Let’s make it an uncomfortable visit to south London for Ryan, Rob and friends.

A golden opportunity to show the owners what is possible at Charlton.
Also a golden opportunity to disappoint the biggest crowd of the season.
Which will it be? I think I know ………………
The circus really is coming to town. I am trying to work out what all these people think they are going to see. Its very strange. Oh well, more money in the coffers. No problem for me to welcome back George. I was seriously thinking of trying to sit behind Andy Scott but thought better of it. The prat isn’t worth it.
Oh and the score was 1-0 CA. Here is the team.
My favourite player of the time, Paul Walsh was on the cover of the programme. Sigh. Now there was a player.
And who scored the goal?
Thanks also to Kings Hill Addick, who emailed me overnight to tell me I wrote 1992 and not 1982.
Steve gritt. Take a look at the goal! Good header. But omg that pitch!

And home fans behind both goals. Glory days 💪
