Sell out

Wycombe has all but sold out for Saturday’s early kick off – remember it’s a 12.30 start (7.30am here in Florida).

It’s another fantastic effort by Addicks for a dead rubber that closes down a season which will end with our worst league placing since 1926.

That’s ten games I make it that we have sold our away allocation this season, which is both impressive and mind-boggling at the same time. Huge credit to those Addicks that continue to spend their hard earned money and travel up and down the country.

There’s been some other really good turnouts as well, such as taking over 1,000 to Carlisle, and more than 600 to Newport on a wet Tuesday night for the Carabao Cup that stick in the mind.

Valley attendances will rely a lot more on momentum next season, but the hard core away support hopefully will keep improving in numbers, with – please – an uptick in results..

Just three away league wins this season, only one until Jones showed up, not one clean sheet, and some bloody awful Cup games to boot.

God bless Charlton fans.

For me, tomorrow marks the first season (other than the Covid one) that I have not attended a live Charlton game since my Dad first took me in 1975.

Disappointed in myself, and although I was thwarted by an international break game being postponed, I have really struggled to find the will and real desire to jump on a plane and get home for a match.

Of course Charlton TV, at least for now, feeds the longing but there has never been a season since I left the UK in 2003 that I haven’t felt a spontaneity or made a well hatched plan to get home and watch them live.

I live in hope that next season I will want to be part of something special by taking my seat at a game.

I’ve followed Charlton since 1966 when my father and I stood on the East terrace for all games…..

I have watched Charlton through many highs and lows since then but it’s my club and will continue to experience misery and happiness each season.

    In Nathan we trust. !

How can you make a valid comparison with 1926 when there was a third division north and south then? Why do people make such a fuss about worst league placing when football has changed beyond recognition?

I think that’s what people do. They make historical comparisons. The only comparison’s we can make is back in time.

But, okay this is the worst league position this decade, this century, since the Premier League began, since it went to 3 points for a win, since WWII.

Agree that the league structure wasn’t comparable, but if we combine the leagues north and south we’d have finished 82nd out of the 88 football league clubs in 1926. So comparably that season was far worst than this one.
