Have we won the race for Conor Coventry?
Charlton appear to have won the race to sign West Ham’s Conor Coventry pipping Sheffield Wednesday to his permanent signature. The midfielder had a medical at the training ground today.
Jim Rodwell excused Andy Scott at last night’s fan meeting saying he was away convincing a player to sign, and it looks as if may have pulled it off.
The 23-year talented young midfielder has been with West Ham his entire career, emerging through their famed academy.
In the first half of last season, Coventry was on the bench in the UEFA Europa League (which meant he won a winner’s medal) before joining Rotherham in the January window.
He made 16 appearances as the Millers survived relegation before returning to West Ham where club and player decided it was time for Coventry to move on before his contract expires this coming summer.
Coventry has enjoyed loan spells with Lincoln (L1), Peterborough (Championship) and MK Dons (L1) and has made 71 career appearances in total including 10 for the Hammers’ 1st team. He has scored 3 goals.
Coventry has yet to play for the full Ireland team but has a record 28 caps for their U21’s.
Let’s see if we can get this one over the line and then we can worry what this does to the future of George Dobson.

You’ve changed your tune then – thought you thought this was only a backup plan ? 😎
Tune changed 🙂
Now we are cooking with gas
This looks a straight replacement for George Dobson, unless we want four defensive midfielders at the club? (McGrandles, Dobbo, Bakindon and Coventry). If so I hope it means that we are going to get decent money for Dobbo which we are recycling straight away for this chap.
Guess we might find out sooner rather than later – given the recent failings its clear we need more height in the side so will be interesting to see if Bakinson (6ft 3in) is fit and Coventry paperwork is done, whether Dobbo actually gets left out of the squad ? You heard it here first !! 😎
