Having a beer with Paulo Di Canio 🍺

2️⃣1️⃣ Over the next months I plan on running a couple of different series of posts to celebrate this Blog’s recent 21st birthday.

As Chicago Addick came of drinking age, at least in the land of the free, I thought I’d run a series of 21 current or former Charlton players from the beginning of my time of supporting them that I’d love to go for a beer with, someone I’d be delighted to spend a couple of hours listening to Charlton and football anecdotes over a couple of pints or whatever takes their fancy.

Sent to Coventry

Credit where credit is due. Andy Scott sweet talked Conor Coventry into signing for Charlton on Wednesday night after his talks with Sheffield Wednesday stalled predominantly over a sell-on fee.

This looks a considerable upgrade on other signings under this management group, so welcome to the other side of the Blackwell Tunnel, Conor.

Have we won the race for Conor Coventry?

Charlton appear to have won the race to sign West Ham’s Conor Coventry pipping Sheffield Wednesday to his permanent signature. The midfielder had a medical at the training ground today.

Jim Rodwell excused Andy Scott at last night’s fan meeting saying he was away convincing a player to sign, and it looks as if may have pulled it off.

Happy Hammers

I have a lot of West Ham mates, and I was very happy for them all last night. Only 9 English clubs have won a European Trophy twice, and the Hammers’ first trophy in 43 years made them one of that elite group.

It was a special night, if not a great match, but chuffed for my West Ham supporting mates who were all nursing hangovers today. Pleased too for David Moyes and Declan Rice, who seems a great lad.

West Ham United 3 Charlton Athletic 0

No shame in that.

A poor five minutes where Sebastien Haller, who cost the Hammers the same as all of Charlton’s assets put together, scored twice, and then a late third by Felipe Anderson, who cost the same amount bar the west stand and a couple of astroturf pitches at the training ground.

What at one point looked like a severe confidence denting was averted and in the 2nd half we were for periods the better team, and there were plenty of positives we and Lee Bowyer can take away from the game.

West Ham away

What a right old knees up that would have been if we’d been allowed to travel to West Ham in the League Cup 2nd Round. Other than playing the Nigels a couple of times, this is probably our best League Cup draw for two decades. Poxy Covid!

The Hammers’ Tax Payers Stadium has a cup allocation of 8,000. We would have taken that many wouldn’t we?
