Beam me up Scotty
So, what did we find out yesterday.
Andy Scott will be the key decision maker in choosing a new manager, as well as bringing in and selling players this week. Andy is a busy man. Charlie Methven is keeping his counsel and the merry band of other investors and board members are silent.
Jack Payne became the umpteenth player to leave this summer, meaning another pair of boots to fill with just two whole days of the window left to work in.
Online puppets continue to spin the line that we are close to FFP and we have to offload more players to bring new ones in, which is absolute BS, as is the squad limitation rule, which we are way short off due the load of youngsters we have in the squad.
Nonetheless those with their ear to ground suggest that newcomers maybe limited to just Fankaty Dabo, if he can pass a medical and Manchester City’s Slobodan Tedić, the 6ft 3 striker from Serbia who is yet to play a senior game for City and was on loan at Barnsley last season.
I am preparing for the worst, but maybe Andy will come good. After all he was partly responsible for signing 100 new players for Forest last summer!
We’ll hold fire on the denunciation, but the trail of deceit and fluff from the new owners and management on what they will do this summer window which began in early June is already ludicrous.
Also this week in Andy Scott’s spare time he will interview Danny Crowley and Michael Appleton. This after supposedly Jim Rodwell’s mate Darragh MacAnthony told the press that Darren Ferguson turned down the opportunity to talk to us, and someone else blabbed that Sir Chris Powell had no interest in being our interim manager.
Others suggest that Lee Bowyer has been approached, but no one in the know is suggesting that we talk to someone that would be a real sign of intent and ambition such as Darren Moore, Chris Wilder or Nathan Jones.
Let the F5 clicking begin.

Here we are just 39 HOURS before the window closes. Are we going to bring in the amount of players that will make the squad a creditable one to challenge for a top six place…….no, of course not. For two months we have had to listen to rhetoric about transfer targets and the work going on behind the scenes ‘to get the right players’. Lets all have a bet at what happens with incomings in the next thirty-nine hours. I reckon 3 loans and 1 ‘free’ at most. I would love to be proved wrong, and from out of the blue we get some quality and experience. Scott, it’s over to you.!!
I don’t think it has ever been the SMT’S intention to strengthen the squad with numbers or quality. We had the waffle a little while ago from Dean himself (probably echoing the SMT’S stance) saying that he wanted a small squad of players to help galvanise togetherness! The injuries soon put paid to that and it just shows incredible naivety if anyone thinks that “kids” can compete by playing a few times each week in men’s football in a very tough league. 18,000+ turned out on the first day of the season hoping this would be the season that Charlton actually show some ambition. It was all smoke & mirrors by the SMT. The “Sunderland Til l Die” documentary showed clearly how stupid and out of touch Methven really is. Methven should have gone long before Holden. Methven has denied Holden the opportunity to do his job properly!
Here Here !! Totally agree Norfolk
As I previously mentioned on an earlier post, since Roland took charge, we only go for cheap options in Managers. The critera appears to be, only ever been a coach previously, only ever had one decent season with a lower league club, or are currently out of work and can’t get another club as their track record overall is pretty poor, but they were well known once!
As long as they don’t cost much, Charlton can then offer them a two to three year contract to see if it works out, if not, easy to sack them and go again, as a good solid manager with a decent track record who knows these lower divisions, the sort of players required to get out of them and is backed to get them in plus knows how to turn things around when it’s not working, would cost Charlton three times as much!!!
Until they change their tact, we will probably just be back at square one next season and we will again be looking for another new manager and trying to offload yet another load of dead wood as well.
I sincerely hope not, but as you have implied CA, it’s not looking good yet again at the moment and the type of managers we are viewing.
I agree. When Holden once commented that, under him as Manager, the Club would have a “no dickhead policy”, clearly this didn’t apply at Board level.
FOR GOD SAKE GIVE THE JOB TO BOWYER WHY DONT THEY LISTEN TO THE SURPORTERS WONT RENEW MY SEASON TICKET BEEN WITH CHARLTON FOR 55YEARS HAD ENOUGTH OF THIS SHIT YEAR IN YEAR OUT.
Sorry no way Bowyer, did well to get us up but should have, with some of the players brought in, but again a one season wonder. He completely lost the plot in the Championship and his arrogance started to show, with giving utter rubbish interviews after losing, with poor team selections, never bringing on subs until it was too late and also lost the dressing room. We only needed a point to stay up! As per his move to Birmingham, started okay but then went downhill very fast and again couldn’t turn things around!
No thanks JC you are the only supporter I know of who wants him back!
People seem to have forgot the madness that overtook Bowyers management. Playing people out of position, publicly humiliating Jonny Williams, then scuttling off to Birmingham when he saw the signs of what was coming.
I never want to see him in a CAFC management position again.
Jacko….answer your phone !!!
Well no more words needed and seriously are any of us really surprised at Charlton Pathetic an agreewiththe above posts.
