Jack Payne joins MK Dons on loan
Good luck to Jack, who never shirked a tackle or stopped running but from I saw was never good enough for L1, and MK Dons looks a good move for him.
Payne, 28, will spend the 2023/24 season at Stadium MK, where they have started really well under Graham Alexander.
Payne played 54 times for the Addicks, scoring 7 goals. He may well have been a bit-part player, but we will miss his goals and so far this season has been about the only player sat on the bench that could make any kind of offensive impact.
Hopefully this is the first domino to fall this week.

Totally agree CA, he did seem to have the right attitude, especially when he got a start. He’s likely to get more starts in League 2. If you are battening down the hatches for the storm, you all stay safe.
Not a particularly smart move for CAFC but then without a manager to advise otherwise, moves like this are inevitable. Just two days away from a window closure and without a replacement to fill that vacancy. I thought Payne was a useful player to have around. One might get the impression from this situation that reducing Club losses is more important than seeking promotion out of League One.
If a choice of keeping one of DJ, Kirk, Payne or McGrandles I think you’d keep Payne 100%.
Kirk, McGrandles and DJ should all have been out the door before Payne.
Correct Daggs. Maybe I read too much into Andy Scott’s comment …..” but has shown the correct attitude and application to prospective suitors.” Possibly a dig at the other three?
A good squad player for us and useful coming off the bench, but he rarely did it for me as a starter. Then he made a few too many mistakes.
You could never fault his work rate so that’s another Ben Garner pick out the door and wage off the books, presumably freeing up a move for an incoming player.
Good luck to him.
Best wishes to Jack and a player who gives 100%.
I’m confident he will be an asset to MKDs and thrive.
Hope you and the family stay safe if needed.
Thanks Chris.
