SE7 Partners deal moves closer

“Charlton Athletic can confirm that a deal has been agreed for SE7 Partners to purchase the football club.

A share purchase agreement (SPA) has been signed by the club’s current owner Thomas Sandgaard and SE7 Partners. The club and SE7 Partners will work with the EFL to meet its requirements before approval for the takeover is granted.” (more)

The SPA is legally binding and it is up to the EFL to now rubber-stamp their approval of the Charlie Methven led group to finalize their takeover, with Thomas Sandgaard’s ailing reign coming to an end.

In the less than 3-years of Thomas Sandgaard’s ownership the club has gone backwards in league position and ambition, and has had five permanent managers.

According to current CEO Peter Storrie the club’s summer transfer plans will not be impacted.

I was hoping for a Varney led deal but let’s give it a chance, you never know.

Harrumph…I wonder if they’ve included Roland in discussions about the future. Can’t get very excited about prospects and Storrie’s meaningless remarks don’t help..

I agree with you Greg has a whiff of ESI about it and Sunderland fans are not Charlie’s no1 fans
There might be a new block of flats and a supermarket standing on the grounds of what was once a fantastic football club I hope I’m very very wrong

With respect Danny not the best observation being as the deal is for the football club, most definitely not the real estate.
Nevertheless, intentions need to be understood and scrutinised, expectations tempered.

There’ll be a lot of differing opinions and hot takes on this but I see it as good news.

Thomas wanted to sell up and he has – and while a lot of people will be glad to see the back of him he saved us from Paul Elliott, ESI and most likely receivership. Who knows what would have happened or where we would now be if he had lost patience with Elliott’s dicking around three year ago.

That said I’m nervous about Charlie Methven’s involvement, but he was only a minor owner at Sunderland and has even less money after that experience. I doubt he’ll have any stake in the club and maybe he’ll be CEO or something.

Joshua Friedman and a consortium of American owners are the money men. He is seriously loaded and we have to hope that he’s not going to invest in the club and then only spend pocket change. But then Roland was a Euro billionaire and that worked out badly.

Remember they are buying the club, not the Valley or the training ground which still belongs to the above mentioned Roland. This begs the question, why buy Charlton, a club with virtually no assets bar a few players, if you aren’t going to have a bit of fun with it and possibly see us in the premier league?

And if my granny had balls she would be my granddad.
And I think you use the word current wisely.

Could someone please explain why US American consortia are so keen to buy lots of ailing and flailing English football clubs when there is virtually no chance of making any money? If they think they can extract money and pauperise a club, a la Manchester United, they need a mental health examination.
Uncle Roly looks like the only one who has had ‘an interest’ in Our Club who will actually make any money out of it and he is on record as saying it was the mistake of his life. (And yes, I do know that Roly is not a US American.

Hi CA, I will always be grateful for Sandgaard saving the club, but not trying to run it by himself and family without the professionals that are clearly required. We can only hope that the new owners, don’t do something similar or worse.
Let’s give the new owners a chance and hopefully Methven isn’t quite the ogre he is painted. COYR.

All I’m saying Steve that as long as Roland is happy getting rent in for the ground all good but why is no one interested in buying the whole club I’m fed up with it being rich peoples toy if Roland gets fed up we don’t have a club
