Happy Hammers

I have a lot of West Ham mates, and I was very happy for them all last night. Only 9 English clubs have won a European Trophy twice, and the Hammers’ first trophy in 43 years made them one of that elite group.

It was a special night, if not a great match, but chuffed for my West Ham supporting mates who were all nursing hangovers today. Pleased too for David Moyes and Declan Rice, who seems a great lad.

In today’s football too much emphasis is put on staving of relegation or coming 4th or 7th or making the play-off’s. Seeing your team lift a real trophy is really what memories and being a football fan are about, and I feel very fortunate that four times in my lifetime I have seen a Charlton Athletic captain lift a trophy above his head.

Other than my personal connections, I actually remember very fondly our time at Upton Park for the 1991/92 season and part of the next season until the great homecoming in December 1992.

Unlike that other lot, West Ham were considerate hosts, and it was great time of my life following Charlton all over the country with the move back to The Valley moving closer.

Enjoy the moment Hammers.

Agree not the best game ever, but a very good finish and result. My Grandad a Millwall docker was a West Ham supporter who never saw them win anything bless him. I also remember seeing West Ham play Charlton at Upton Park in an FA Cup round when I was quite young and lost, but the West Ham fans were great and looked after us very well.
    Up the Hammers.

Agree with the thrust of this piece Chig. But there does seem to be an increase in the amount of trophies available nowadays.
I honestly have no idea how a team qualifies for this competition and couldn’t even tell you it’s name (I would have to research it)
