Disruptive

Another murky day of mystery, intrigue and disruption at Charlton.

It appears club staff have been told of the appointment of Peter Storrie as the new CEO. Storrie had a less than storied career at West Ham, Southend, Notts County and Portsmouth.

Once arrested for corruption alongside Harry Redknapp, and later cleared, he was also exculpated of tax invasion due to the sale of Addicks’ legend Amdy Faye. He took Pompey into administration and left citing personal abuse from supporters who blamed him for the club’s demise.

The 70-year old was last in Australia as executive vice chairman of Australian A League outfit Central Coast Mariners. He currently appears to operate in an advisory position for wealthy Anglo-French businessman Joseph Oughourlian.

Oughourlian owns French side RC Lens and Colombian league champions Millionarios.

Storrie appears to be the latest man to be parachuted in by a proposed buyer, just two days after Thomas Sandgaard pulled the rip-cord on Charlie Methven’s merry band resulting in Jim Rodwell, Ed Warwick and Andy Scott leaving the club immediately.

Methven hasn’t taken too kindly to this and plans to sue Sandgaard after a tirade of guff which sounds widely absurd.

Storrie’s role has yet to be confirmed by the club, but as the day grew on, the name of U.S. businessman Marc Spiegel came to the fore as the next potential bidder Sandgaard wants to get in bed with.

Spiegel is the founder of Rubicon ‘a digital marketplace for waste and recycling.’ His business interests appear to be worth about half as much as Sandgaard’s Zynex.

Former agent Jon Smith will also join the club according to respected Athletic journalist Matt Slater, who has been showing a welcome interest in latest developments at The Valley (The Athletic article is behind a paywall).

Sandgaard clearly prefers U.S. bidders despite the three American billionaires lined up previously alongside Methven nickel and diming him. Spiegel’s bid I assume allows for Sandgaard to keep a percentage of the club, and won’t include The Valley or Sparrows Lane.

Spiegel looks to me another deluded unqualified ego tripper. Where Peter Varney or Andrew Barclay sit at the moment is anyone’s guess.

All this going on while a growingly dislocated Dean Holden is trying to prepare the team for a game tomorrow.

A digital marketplace for waste and recycling sounds about right. My Notts County contact used one word.

Storrie was heavily involved when WHU poached one of our youngsters & said CAFC had told him we didn’t want a fee for him. Can’t remember if it was Defoe or later. Just another scumbag spiv on the make imho, when will we ever be rid of them?

To be honest from what I’ve been told Varney doesn’t sound like the answer either and I was a supporter of his apparently he treated ebbsfleet the same as southall did by spending money on cars and all sorts of other stuff
So if there is someone out there I’d be happy if they brought the club lock stock and barrel so we are just Charlton Athletic again no one owning different parts of the club and we spend a few more years in the lower leagues rebuilding this fantastic club I’d be happy no more pie in the sky owners with dodgy promises of things that won’t happen
We should own the ground the training ground the players the bloody car park and the badge
I’d be happy for a honest owner that can get rid of RD ownership of our property I’d be happy for that owner to say sorry no money for players so freebies and loans just to be free of all the arseholes that have a finger in the cafc pie

Oh, please! We do not want any more know-all, ‘cashed-up’, this so-called football, gee it’s so easy, ego-centric tossers anywhere near our club. Can we please have some authentic Britons with a real interest in Charlton lining up? It can’t really be so hard, can it???

Just listened to this, a good find Houndal. The expected vague garbage for the first 10 mins from Methven, then following the question ‘why Charlton’ Methven gives something away. The club – money vacuum, Sparrows Lane – owners by someone else, as is The Valley. So indeed why Charlton? Methven replies – ACADEMY. I have a feeling that’s where he sees the assets, and that’s where he’ll make his money.
      Leaburn – 3-5mill
      Campbell – 500k – 1mill
      Maynard Brewer – 1-2mill
      Ness 500k – 1 mill
      Kanu – 1-2mill

Suddenly 10mill clawed back without discussing selling other senior pros like Dobson and CBT.

Hopefully just me being pessimistic but I can’t fathom why you’d buy a club for 10mill that loses money like we do without either being a multi-millionaire OR having a devious agenda.

Exactly Rob, the devious agenda I think.
