What a joke

Today’s game at Peterborough has been called off just over an hour before kick-off with almost a couple of thousand Charlton fans almost certainly already in the town or close by.

Those Addicks travelled in the knowledge that the home side were positive the game would go ahead that there was no need to inspect the pitch last night or early this morning. Posh waited until the arrival of the match officials to make the first and only inspection at 1.30pm, and after a serious of conversations the decision was made to the call the game off due to a frozen pitch with the clock ticking around to 2pm.

What a joke. Very two-bob from Peterborough with no consideration for Charlton fans at all. Dean Holden is not happy.

Our own club are not known for their communication skills, but I have to think here that the blame falls 100% at the feet of Peterborough. Poor planning and communication all around, especially when it looks as if the pitch was always going to be unplayable.

More than away 1,500 tickets were pre-sold with many hundreds of others expected on the day. Hopefully they can find a warm pub showing Sky Sports for the afternoon.

Peterboro’ should have to pay for the fans expenses in terms of travel etc. Their pitch is never the best anyway and to leave the decision until so late is just ridiculous. Just yesterday they were saying they were confident of the game going ahead. I wonder if it suited them for the match to be called off so that Ferguson can spend more time with the players they have and maybe any that they have got lined up to come to the club.

Test match cricket used to treat the crowd as spectators rather than customers. In dodgy weather or bad light paying clients were the last to know what was happening.
Peterborough should be fined for this postponement; at the very least they should reimburse Addicks’ supporters the full cost of their journey plus at least 25% by way of an apology. The EFL needs to take a look at their postponement rule/criteria as a matter of urgency.

I think the ref dictates what time the pitch inspection is.

I think it would be good convention from the home club if they had a local referee check on the pitch prior to the match referee arrives there. And, maybe not tell all and sundry that it will be played.

Feel mostly sorry for the supporters who have travelled up there to be advised so late, its a complete joke!
Re watching by video, I have had to go to another CAFC email address to try and get a refund for my video link, as the the email they send my payment details through, now won’t accept return emails! (At least I didn’t waste a whole day)
Charltons own website needs sorting out, as I can never get onto my actual account details, due to some technical error with Firefox browser which CAFC have never been able to sort, yet they say they are doing it, as many have complained, that was about six months ago, but obviously it’s still not working! So also on the main site I can sign in and but can never sign out, so am always signed in.
Still at least the team is performing better with the new management, perhaps an overhall of the tech team would also be of benefit!

Tech team? What do you think this is some kind of well funded and forward-thinking organization 😀

There is no tech team at Charlton is all down to Beryl the tea lady as the plug has to be switched on together with the tea-ern, that is linked to the floodlights too !😀

Charlton contacted Peterborough twice to check that the pitch was playable, once yesterday and then this morning, and were assured that it was. How do you from playable to half the pitch being in permafrost and unplayable?

The match referee cannot be faulted here.

Dean Holden went on to see next week’s opponents Bolton play Derby. A bit of quick thinking by him might have paid off, we’ll see…

I understand that Charlton have in the recent past had a similar situation regarding concerns about having parts of the pitch frozen.
The problem is that with constant minus overnight temperatures the pitch never thaws out but continues to freeze during the day.
Without undersoil heating or frost covers you would be fighting a losing battle.
I’m aware that a local official referee has been called in to inspect the Valley pitch around 8am that avoids the problem and something that should have happened at Peterborough.
Travelling to a game is expensive and no doubt Peterborough would have lost money too having to cancel corporate meals, catering and sales.
If in doubt it’s best to make a decision early to avoid fans travelling.

I traveled to Peterborough from Kings Lynn and got to the stadium at 1.30 pm, to be told to go back home as the match had been postponed!!!! All morning we were being told that the match was going ahead. Good job I did not travel from Bermuda. When I reached the pub and heard Valley Floyd Road being sung by a lot of our supporters, I managed to get a big smile on my face. Such great fans. On to the next match versus Bolton Wanderers (please make the Valley pitch playable) COYR….

You seem pretty chilled David, if you pardon the pun. Hopefully a few pints in the pub helped.
