A left back signs

Matt Penney, a left-footed left back, has signed on loan from Ipswich Town until the end of the season.

Stories were emanating that a new signing was due to be involved at Peterborough this afternoon, and the club later announced that 24-year old Penney had dropped.…

Penney came through Sheffield Wednesday’s academy, had a few loans including in Germany for St. Pauli as Dean Holden noted, and eventually played 32 times.

Ipswich signed him in the summer of 2021 when they signed almost everyone including Macauley Bonne and Scott Fraser. Penney played 22 times last season, but then went on loan to SPL side Motherwell in August where he impressed twice winning their player of the month twice.

Motherwell were keen to re-sign him, but Charlton have stepped in.

How nice to have a left-footed left back. This allows Stephen Sessegnon to move over to the right side.

Never heard of him before and can’t believe our top scout Master Gallen has either, let alone ever seen him play even once! Agree with John G, and hope hes not another desperate poor signing just to get a left sided player in!
