Two in, three out?

“Yeah, of course. We’re looking to see if we can stretch the other defence a little more – someone able to run in behind and create that confusion. We’ve seen that already, that it has been a little too easy for opposing defences to cut us off.”

🤯

No, not fresh out the UEFA A coaching manual, but Thomas’ latest statement on this week’s transfer deadline.

There will be no fees, or offers of lucrative contracts and loans are unlikely, but a central defender and a striker are on the list for this week. Where and what aisle Steve Gallen is shopping in for those recruitments I have no idea.

There has been mumblings today of a Macauley Bonne return as a loan deal but Ipswich appear front of the queue there. Otherwise there are literally no, none, nada rumours out there.

Meanwhile Gilbey, Forster-Caskey and MacGillivray remain in the ‘for sale’ bundle.

To be fair to him, Thomas has at least stuck his neck out there. I am sure we won’t be alone in the bring and buy market. As always there will be a lot of moving parts, but at least there are parts….

Would have thought after his “smash the league” and “five years to the premiership” statements, he might just keep quiet …………………………….

I feel that reality has struck home….we just need to realise like TS that empty promises can come home to roost when reality of League 1 ambition can’t be backed up.
Most sensible fans will take staying in league1 the first priority.

Sounds very much like TS is giving far more leniecy to BG than he gave to JJ. Cannot see this squad being “at minimum a playoff position at minimum” (TS’s criteria for JJ) but he is still learning the realities of EFL League One football.

I think we all knew that well before Sangaard has stated the obvious!
He should also think about trying to get Aneke of the books for free, to anyone who would take him, as he is probably on the highest wages and will just be a drain on wages for the next two- three years without producing anything. Unfortunately Sangaard won’t want to accept losing the £300,000 that was paid for him, plus couldn’t really see any takers anyway!

Mike, come on Aneke for free – you would have to pay someone to take him and his ipad!!
As for the others, well we have to hope someone out there is stupid enough (as in Aneke) to pay their wages. Of course the likely outcome is they let their exhorbitant contracts run down playing football manager with Chuks.

Paul, no hope and Bob Hope. TS couldn’t pay anywhere near his wage demands.
Anyway you could argue he got us relegated, so let him rot.

The *desperate* optimist in me wants to read TS’s interview as him underplaying things to keep expectations, from fans and agents alike, subdued. That rose-tinted daydream has a striker and a centre half lined up to arrive, regardless of outgoings, and any leavers making room or funding for further additions.
The sober Charlton fan of 30 years endurance won’t be surprised to see a fading loanee and a 4th division chancer arrive late on tomorrow.
The rashness of the Aneke deal is going to hobble this team for another year at least. The apotheosis of *good money after bad*
